Just use the same belt (a dynamo belt)
An alternator belt is normally longer as they are for a type 4 engine where as you have fitted an alternator to a type 1 engine.
I assumed the same as you and bought an alternator belt and its way to long!

Hiya guys, I offered up a new dymano belt and it just looks like it will be a stretch to get it on. I'll have a go first and see if it fits. Is the stand for an alternator not higher? I might pop outside and take a measurement from the cetres of the alternator and pulley nuts.

Belts are different:

So this would be the one Loxy?

I shall order two tomorrow ;)
Oh and Loxy ;) as your familiar with petronix, the magnetic collar that pushes onto the post has a slight lip at one end. Does this go to the bottom onto the plate, or at the top? or can it only go one way?

Hi Loxy, its going right down quite easily till the lip is on the step in the cam, I put the dust cover and rotor on and the cap goes on ok. I set to 30thou air gap as per the kits instructions. Should be it.
