Just spoke to Pro-tec and they said 324 inc vat and delivery. You get a storage bag and 3 year warranty. Normally takes about 3 weeks to arrive. Sounds like this is one of the best covers so seriously thinking getting one of these.

I have no clue about Bus covers but i had a cover for my Lotus from these people
http://www.specialisedcarcovers.com/
They are top quality and known to be the best in the exotic car circles. I used to put it on the wet car and the next day the car would be dry. They will tailor a cover for you and i know they do discounts for car clubs.

I have nothing to do with them but after using many car covers i was very impressed which takes a lot.

Just been in touch with specialised car covers and they do have "patterns" for type 2 campers. They would require pictures to ensure that they are working to the correct design.

Costs are £250 puls VAT and delivery. So that makes it £293.75 plus delivery.

I didn't ask about group buys as it sounds like they make to measure and that could get complicated.

Now we need to know which is the best!!

Here are the specs of the Specilised waterproof car cover

Manufactured from a triple layer protection fabric AVANTEC. This is a unique fabric that has been designed to protect vehicles. For complete all weather durability the cover is lap-seamed to ensure that it remains watertight and breathable. The AVANTEC cover will keep your car free from the natural damage caused by acid rain, bird droppings, dampness and direct UV light. Individually hand tailored for all makes of cars.
Quick release webbing straps with buckle fastenings for added security.
Recommended for outdoor or indoor use.
Storage bag included.
Choice of four colours: dark blue, British racing green, silver grey and black.

Can find any specs from Caravan covers.

We received our info pack from Pro Tec today with samples of the material and the 2 choice of colours :) Green or Grey

Took out the sample and promptly ripped it in half! :? :x and no I hadn't had my weetabix today ;)

Even with the milder weather here on the West Coast of Scotland we still get pretty bad wind and rain so we WON'T be spending over £300 on this cover.

Back to hunting for a lockup/farm building to keep the van in whilst we work on it :|

The specialised covers are good and I don't think you would easily be able to rip the stuff. See if they will send a sample out.

I've emailed them for a quote and sample, will post when it arrives.

I did email Pro-Tec to sort of give them a right of reply and I also included a link to this topic. So far they are silent on the matter.

I find it a bit frustrating as I hoped I could have placed an order by now.

Do Pro-Tec say how many layers of this stuff they put together because that would make a difference.

Baldrick I hope you get a reply, I was rather taken aback at being able to rip is so easily.

Rustyveedub as quoted in their brochure

" Protex3 is a Tri-Laminated material made up of the following layers:-

Coloured top layer - UV stabalised to protect all year round.

Middle membrane - Provides a waterproof protection whilst retaining its breathable property, allowing naturally occurring water vapour to escape.

Lower layer - A soft white non-abrasive inner layer ensuring no scratching or marking to your windows or bodywork."

I was planning on ordering one of these next week, might hold off for a bit and see if they reply now....

I'd planned on ordering mine on Monday but now just waiting to see if they reply. I have seen these covers on a number of caravans and I have to say, they do look thicker than the material in the picture above and I have never seen one rip. I will also call them next week if no more news to see if we can get to the bottom of this.

Has anyone ordered a sample from http://www.specialisedcarcovers.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ? If not, I will call them Monday for one and post a picture when I get it.

Ive got mixed feelings on this covering up lark,
some say they trap moisture :?
breathable :?
whats wrong with a good waxing once a week in the open air?
at least you wont have a shock when taking off the cover in spring

i wish id polished it at christmas rather than leaving it under that thing and getting pissed!

I've just received the pack from Specialised Covers, 4 sample pieces, full costing and info brochure, the blurb is much the same, infact both companies have used similar wording to describe their products.

Cost from Specialised would be £250 + carraige £8.50+ VAT £45.24 = £303.74

The quality of the samples was ( in my opinion) superior to the ProTec ones, thicker and softer on the inside. I twisted and pulled each sample with no effect other than to distort the shape slightly. :D and I'd had weetabix!

I've taken a few pics but my advice would be to order samples from which ever companies you are thinking of buying from and test them yourselves.

p.s. the stain on the blue sample was be pouring coffee on it to test waterproofablity( did I just make a new word?)

Hi all

I've just been in touch with Pro-Tec and they said that the sample are for demonstration purposes of what the backing material is like and the colour. The finished product has a different composition and cannot be torn.

I don't want to be their spokesman but they did seem helpful when I spoke to them. I spoke to a guy called Mark Read.

I guess we just have to make a judgement call. :(
