i have a rock and roll bed but truthfully i never have it in seat mode, i never take anone in the back so no need.

you could build a full width bed with storage underneath for tools and spares. you can also fit the propex under the bed, against the opposite wall you could build a box seat / storage for esential items. you could also try turn the passenger seat into a captains chair so that i swivels. trust me with the rain in this country you will spend time in the van and any extra comfort helps.

you say you wont use the van for camping, but you still need a few camping items like gas stove for that early morning coffee rather than paying the rip off prices for sleeping at a service station then the rip off prices for a cup of coffee. why cant they be like france and let you sleep in the car park for free, maybe then people wont drive while tired.

I'm not sure we'd be doing early mornings (if we needed to sleep overnight we'd most likely book in somewhere - health issues and all that) however the idea of being able to stop and have a brew anytime/anywhere is very appealing. Especially as I'd already be carrying a gas bottle for the Propex.

Bluebird do a base however with this one you need to cut the guides from your seat and weld to the swivel..

I've seen them before all ready to slide into position just requiring the seat fixing to it and the bulkhead removing.

try googling swivel seat bases for T2 vw, theres loads of info out there...

probably too deep for the bus... T2 are only a few cm deep.

A decent fabricator should be able to knock one upquite easilly

Luan heres a pic of a captains chair in a bay in operation you can see whats needed

Cheers Araon. It's an interesting idea but I'm not sure we'd actually benefit from it, especially as that metal piece that is normally behind the seats is proving to be a rather convenient fixture to which I can strap (using those bungee luggage cord things) my wife's wheelchair.

I have however saved the image to my folder of "ideas for the future" so thanks for posting it.

Indeed however I think the swivel chair would be of more benefit to my wife than it would to me (and she's the passenger). I guess I could move the door to the other side of the vehicle, or even change it from LHD to RHD.

i hope youve got buckets of cash or buckets of time

that would be a big job.

Yup, that's why I added the laughing smiley.

I'll get right onto it just as soon as I've taught these 'ere pigs 'ow t' get airborne. ;-)

You dont necessarily have to cut the bulkheads just a 90 deg turn will rotate the passenger into the walkthrough.
