Thumbing my way back
My van is a 71 with a 1700cc engine.

Did Volkswagen originally produce the 71 model with a 1700 engine or has a previous owner changed it along the line.

I ask this as I have been looking for a Haynes manual for a couple of months but can't find one anywhere!

Thanks in advance

If was made in late 71, then it would be a 72 year model, and therefore could/would be correct .... Im guessing its a crossover style?
Does it have the overhead inspection hatch?

I would hedge my bets then on it having been fitted later in its life.

Is it T4 style or type one? T4 would take a bit of jiggery pokery to fit in an early bay like yours?
post a pic up... :D

Not sure mate but pretty sure I think it is a type 1

The van isn't here till next week so I will put up pictures then

If it's an Australian van it could be original, they love the type 4 motor out there. Not sure when they fitted them from.

Wouldn't the gearbox be different too if it's original.

Need pics really.

As said before, rear hatch would be the give away...
