im after a passengers side rust free 65-66 bug door (without glass is fine), and lower repair skin for the drivers side.

I know its not van related but just incase someone knows of anyone selling. cheers

Hey dude, never heard back form you with regard to my last PM. No good for you?

let me check the pm again soz about that

VZI is down so the images are lost can you pm me them please, whcih door was good? the passengers or drivers?

I have 2 '67 doors, would they fit? No rust through, but will need the paint taken off and restored to your liking. One has the glass, the other doesn't and I took the regulator out of it for my '66. Both have the vent wing windows. Remember the '67 doors were the first ones with the push/pull door locks.

thanks rita, but i need 65-66 doors only as far as i know they will only fit 65-66 bugs like mine.

Tofufi i think your right (but im not sure) as theres a mirror hole in the door in those pics, but 65-66 mirrors were mounted from the upper hinge pin?

I think they might be from a car manufactured after august 66 making them 67 doors? any bug gurus in the house?

Dunno to be honest dude. They're exactly the same as were on our '66 (which was on a UK D plate, I'm guessing yours would be a UK C plate model).

Johnny,

Those pictured with the primer are '68 and later doors. '67's were the last year that had the mirrors mounted on the the hinge. That's why I asked you if you were interested in my '67 doors. I'm pretty sure they will fit, not positive, but they DO have the pull up push down door lock buttons as opposed to moving your door handle forward to lock the doors. All of the glass components and regulators will inter- change with '66 doors.
'66 doors had two different configurations as to the exterior door handle push buttons. Early year models retained the full sized square buttons like the '65's, later year models came with the smaller round thumb buttons and were like that through to the '67's. This is of course was with models exported to the US, not sure of the deal with the cars that stayed in Europe or were sent to other countries.
Many changes were made in the Beetles between '65 and '68. The poor little '67 was a bastard year and very unique, many 1 year only parts involved. Many have suggested over here that the '66 was perhaps the best year, upped to a 1300, but still retaining the 6 Volt, and the last year to have the old stye front headlight buckets, and no reverse lights, like the bolt on '67's had. In '68 the Beetle was changed in major ways as I'm sure you're aware. Early '67's retained the 1300, then the later ones had the 1500s, etc. etc, I could go on and on.

The mirror mounting hole on the primered doors is post '67 ('68 on), and the 1/4lights are '67 on parts too. As are the small holes for the chrome trim. VW raised the chrome trim line at some point, which could help dae the doors closer. However, they won't fit a '66 (except as below)

Rita, your '67 doors should have the later latch mechanism with the burstproof catches. This won't fit on the '66 bug door pillar without welding a catch section from a later bug into place.

If in doubt, take a pic of the latch mech on the outside of the door and it can be compared to the '66 ones :)

Hmm, it seems a can of worms have been opened here.

With regard to the doors in the photos they're not '68 onwards, or at least not completely. The quarterlight set up isn't '68 on, as they're different to what I had on both my '68 and '69 model cars. (I got to admit though from the angle the photo is taken they do look similar).

I'm gonna guess they're some kind of '67 immalgamation.

hmmm, getting confused :D

i have the push forward door handle locks and the round thumb button handles if that helps.

still looking.

The 1/4 lights look '68 on to me.
Pre '67 have a metal catch, whereas the post '67 ones have the plastic swivelly catch.

What did you have on the '68 and '69?

A '66 should have this type of door catch:

This type of 1/4 light catch and door handles inside:

(possibly with black trim rather than Ivory)

And it could possibly have the hingepin for this type or mirror:

It definitely should not have the thread in the door for the later mirror.

:)

edit: the trim holes on the primer door suggests '71 onwards, when the raised the trim height :)

deluxes were ivorty or more commonly paltinum gray knobs etc. your catch handles and 1/4 light catch are exactely same as mine.

Still looking for skin or full doors.
