Welcome to the real world guys, the parts you are after are rare, every man and his dog would like them for a fiver but it ain't going to happen.
This has come about because of the popularity of the bus and this is the downside.
After market parts suit some but more and more people are starting to realize the true value of there pride and joy so request NOS parts knowing they will last the next twenty odd years.
Honestly, there is no cheep alternative out there today, and not likely to be either.
My advice if it's worth anything, is to buy it when you need it and stuff the cost, yes I here you say, you may be able to afford it but I can't.......mmmmm. thats debatable!!!
What I have been doing is buying up ignition housings and stripping them, powder coat the housing, find an NOS ignition barrel, having a key cut then trying to sell them for a bit more than it cost me, no harm in that.
BTW, you can use a beetle barrel, key will be a different code but will look ok.
So, if you want yours doing, mail me at [email protected] and we can see if I can help.
Cheers
Ron

All I said was I'll try a key cut for a fiver, that's hardly rare but I think we all know what you mean regarding the rarity of 68 bits.

I'm in the same boat, Ive just stripped the og ignition out. Bit of a pain but done it.

Im getting a tacky £15 one from C+C. that will do for now.
