Seriously contemplating this...

Met the guy at Run To The Sun and he was pretty cool and showed me round the van for ages and let on thats he's thinking of selling.
Now as you've probably noticed the van is too young to be an early bay but it has had the complete new set of panels fitted using Heritage parts. The engine is a purpose built 1641cc with good breathing! 8)

Apart from the obvious one to the front end, by the headlamp (oops!!) it features a number of custom mods such as a totally smoothed dash, welded and smoothed rear end and funky but minimalist interior.

Not sure but perhaps Dave is a member of this forum but eitherway this is a van im seriously contemplating buying so what do you think? Also what do you guys think it is worth (seeing as I'm used only to Splitty prices!!)....

It looks pretty solid underneath and tidy, my massive reservation is whats under the gallons of filler that is now skimmed over the whole bus, not slating the dood who did it or anything but a smoothed bus must contained tons of filler. Also when it comes to changing panels you will have to dig through all of that to find the seams etc.

Love the engine lid etc and has had some good mods, but would advise looking at any resto pics of the work done to see what has been covered pre paint. 8) you dont want to go over to many bumps and have your panels starting to crack

Its like a bay with a "Brazilian" (the laydees will know what i mean) very smooth and bare? some nice mods, the bumper etc. im not sure about the rear number plate?

if the price is right go for it!

You are right on... What I should have mentioned is that the guy showed me loads of pictures of the full restoration and of course the new panels going on. Also of course proof that the new panels have gone on are that it has all the early bay features (even including the half moon air vents!) yet it was a late bay. Plus it was done about 3 years ago so it has stood the test of time.

The vans monetory value anyone???

i agree with easy could be a right mess under all that filler,if it starts rusting the rust will lift all that filler and it will look a dogs dinner, check for cracks where the seems should be.

again it could be a top notch job, cant tell with a pic.

all depends on what he wants for it?

dont forget the free tax you get with an early

As I say, I have seen photo's of the whole resto or I'd not even be contemplating it. Remember, I've restored a Splitty so I know what horrors there can be if not done correctly :x

Asking around £8800 (remembering the engine build was only 2k ago and Ive seen a gazillion pictures of that in pieces too!)

I know, its tax free motoring in my Splitty also! 8) 8)

i wouldnt pay over 7k for it, especially as i would fall out of the weird shaped bed

If you like it and the price is right to you then buy it. 8)

There's a lot to be said for customs like this, something I think the VW scene lacks.
