Hi there,
I was trial-fitting my new westfalia poptop on my '68 , but I don't clearly see
how to secure the luggage rack on the roof (apart from the four bolt-holes where the rack meets the poptop) or if I need anything like rubber supports to rest the rack on the roof?
And I need to find out if I need to make the current hole in my roof bigger or not.

Please help or I there's a website that has info like that or a manual, point me in the right direction pleaz...

Thanks guys!
Nate

the rear of mine has three holes that the rack screws down to, did have a spacer between the roof and the rack but they were perished, so I bought black door stop rubbers from b&q (6 needed about £2 for 2). not sure if you can buy new someone on hear will know though.
Hope this helps

To mount the roof rack, go to a home brew shop and buy 3 rubber bungs used to hold fermentation locks in demijohns. These are exactly the same size as Westfalia used. Some stainless self taps and cup washers to complete. :D

Clarkson46: I dont know exactly what you mean, could you explain in "simple" english please?
I'm a belgian, so excuse me

And if anyone could snap a pic lying on the floor of your camper looking up to the roof, I'd be a happy boy.

Cheers

Gladly. In the UK we make our own beer and wines, hence home brew. There are shops specialising in products to make this happen. A demijohn is a glass vessel of around 5 litres in size in which wine is fermented. To seal the opening a rubber bung is used which has a hole through the centre into which a glass or plastic u-tube arrangement fits which is filled with water. This allows the carbon dioxide in the demijohn to escape without allowing air in. Now it just so happens that the rubber bungs are the same size as the spacers Westfalia used and worked perfectly on our '68. I'll try and find some pictures and post them if this will help understanding.

Nate, Have a look at this website. The bungs are made in cork and rubber.

I didn't have a clue you guys made moonshine
That's probably where you get the courage to tackle those epic restorations, I envy that!

A demi-john is called a damme-jeanne around these parts, so I should've known that.

I'll try and find those rubber bungs here or I'll just order some from the store you mentioned.

How many do I need?

Cheers!

You will need 3 across the rear. One each side under the curve of the luggage rack (if that makes sense) and one in the middle which is how Westfalia did it. They used self tapping screws into the roof to hold it down. At the front they used rubber washers between the rack and the roof. Plaster everything in Waxoyl or similar.

PS Where are you in Belgium?

Unfortunately not, more Oostende, Brugge and Flanders. Just curious as a few years ago I was in Brugge and saw a wedding in one of the squares where a local VW club had a line up of Beetles as a back drop to the Bride & Groom. I have to say I like the life style and the people of Belgium and I could happily live there. Hope I've been helpful. Good luck with the resto.
