Bit of a dumb question but can anyone explain to me how a westy 3/4 bed works?

I've had an early dormobile in the past where the bed pulls out and is supported by the cooler / table. When looking at a Westy do you still sleep over the engine bay and, if so what lifts the seat up when it's pulled out ?

Hopefully that makes sense! Thanks in advance !

There is quite a complicated hinge setup that lows the arse part of the seat to be lifted then pulled forward the back then lowers and then the whole thing levels, there are also some brackets at the front as well. It looks a lot like a knee joint

Thanks for the explanation. I now own a 71 Westy so understand the setup a lot better ! :D

Hi
My Westie has the original rock and roll bed, when I got it I could not get it to fold out properly, discovered there were spring loaded catches on both side hinges. These had broken and were stopping the bed from unfolding properly. Might be worth checking yours.

Mine unfolds fine. However should there be any additional supports at the front of the bed that overhangs ?

Hi Bobster
In answer to your question, no there are no additional supports for the bit that overhangs.
I also have a 71 westy and can assure you that the bed works fine.
Enjoy your Bus :D
