Hi Mte

I got mine from FBI and it is great, and pretty reasonable on price too. Give him a ring.

I'm sure the exchange rate won't help with the price though.

Jon

just pulling this to the top in case a 68 westy ever came my way ;) that needed the canvas replacing...

the wolfsberg west one looks a little creased, are there any options....?

JK ones doesn't get good press I'm afraid and gowesty is very expensive......

what did people pay and were they happy........FBi for example is that well priced?

I've got a jk canvas on mine and tbh i could not fault it, bloody cheap compared to everyone else too :D

put westy and jk into thesamba - there's some that wouldn't agree....

I hate buying parts now as everyone has a differing opinion and some parts are just dire...- there should be a 'which' for vw parts

yeah fair dues - i only want to buy it once! there is a huge price difference prices range from £150 - £300 - how on earth are you supposed to assess and choose

it winds me up

I don't mind paying for something if it's good BUT the £300 has got to fit twice as good, and last twice as long to be justifable trying finding that on the net........

i'm off to sulk in the shed  - stripping down t1 engines...........

You might have a moment of clarity on which 1 to buy while your sulking lol

I'm with westy richardson. fitted a jk one and got all the seals for £150 and can't fault it. yes maybe not as quite heavy gauge but for the money spot on.

Well thought I pass opinion along from a interior guy I know...

Part number etc. from Gowesty.com

Pop-Top Tent, Acrylic (Synthetic Canvas) Fabric [68-73 Bus] (231-702A) @ US $399.95

Avoiding getting this one it plays big and serves the best BUT this material eats your paint on your roof (highly abrasive)

I would try and stick to what was closest originally (heck it lasted for 40 years right?), which I believe was a hemp/cotton mix.

Pop-Top Tent, Hemp Blend Fabric [68-73 Bus] (231-702H) @ US $329.95

Then theres the quick "would work" but prob will not last AS LONG...
Pop-Top Tent, Cotton Fabric [68-73 Bus] (231-702) @ US $289.95

Best

hi here is a jk canvas all the seals £150 fitted fine ,very pleased

like the saying goes you get what you pay for :D

That looks very good. Does the rear window and fly screen unzip to allow access to the roof rack?

Oh, and is it a pain to fit, in terms of adjusting at the top - stapling and restapling?

Just deciding if the VW Heritage one is worth £270 compared with the £150 of the JK one....

Cheers,
Nick

The jk canvas gets alot of bad press, but i fitted 1 with help from a mate (panalvan) and tbh i thought it went on really well. For the money i could not fault it, but at the end of the day it's down to personal choice. Deffo a 2/3 man job, the roof tub is heavier than you would think.

still a bit confused - I might start stalking westy owners at VF and the like to ask where their 'tents' came from....without seeing the material I think it's very tricky.

A guy in belgium also makes them and he sent me a sample the snag is they are at the dearer end of the mkt at around 250 shipped..........

thanks all for the replies it's good to get opinions - those with JK tents whats the noticeable difference assuming you have looked at other makes in comparison?

Have to agree with the rest about the JK one, we fitted one to a customers bus and it was fine and as others have said came with the roof seals etc and the opening side panels and the rear opening to get to the roof rack, can't see any point in spending a huge amount more when its clearly up to the job,

I did'nt have a clue on which 1 to buy, but was chatting to my Snap-on man who has a 76 westy, and he said he had a JK 1 and was happy with it, then he asked me the year of my bus, when i said 1970 we had an arguement over which are cooler, early or late bays............ i clearly won
