Picture this...I have a hangover...we're meant to be meeting friends for sunday lunch....we're late...my misses and son are in the back of the van...we're on country roads in the middle of nowhere!

Then I smell a hot melting smell and have to pull over....open the engine hatch to see the fan belt off and smoke coming out of the engine...no fire thank god. Basically the bolt had come off the dyno...couldn't find it in the engine bay so I had to call for recovery....the engine was hot hot hot.

As you can imagine I'm not too popular at home....

Anyway took the bolt off my Karmann Ghia and all running again. Just ordered some spares and will never leave home without them. The bus seems ok now but is there anything I should check?

What a great day!

I'd change the oil as a bare minimum!
Also, check the plugs over, replace the fan belt and check if the engine seals are leaking.
You might be OK - sounds like a close thing though

;)

nightmare. but like you said its a good job you caught it when you did or it may have been a fire. and then it would really of been a bad day.

you can meet friends again, but it wouldnt be as easy to get the van back on the road after if the bolt had gone somehwere nasty or there was a fire

glad you're ok

Or remove that bit of black tape that covered the annoying red light.....

Dont want a fire extinguisher do you....

Seriously close one fella, deffinately dump the oil as a minimum....

the red light...well there lies the problem. It has never worked since I got the van but I do have a volt meter that I keep an eye on...when the engine is running you can see the charge happen but its not as obvious as a red light. Any tips for cracking this red light not working?

I'm assuming its not just the bulb thats blown and you have got power to the dash from the regulator ... check continuity on the regulator connector 61 to the light...

Dood, change the red light anyway, just in case and also check the current throught all the wires, dont want this happening again

dudes - just call me roxanne...I will make it my mission to get that light fixed!

make it so number one................
