what headlights do i need to convert my US import LHD 1970 bay to UK spec RHD

I thought MK1 Golf headlights could be used to do the conversion but could be wrong?

I bought standard 7inch domed lights off a MG classic car guy on ebay with the side light in

Make sure your US lights are the standard sealed beam type first.

cheapy bulbs but work fine, 90% of new domed lights that aren't hella are made by some greek company anyway.

MK1 golf lights fit late bays, not sure about early.

Domed ones look nicer imho, MK1 golf ones are flat.

If you have the adjustment ring that has three screws, you might have to cut a small section of it away with a grinder to fit the sidelight bulb holder in.

Easy job though.

If you have US side markers (indicators) with twin filament bulbs like brake lights, just disconnect the side light feed and wire it to your new headlight sidelights.

am I missing something? mine were £25 off ebay?

Cibie Iode 7" H4 with pilot light are some of the best. Domed style, all glass structure so rust is not an issue.. Apparently light output is better than that of the equivalent Hella h4 7" lamp.
They are available for about £40 each I think at demon tweeks, larkspeed or similar.

This all assumes your current lights are mounted in the holder, and you have a 1 screw headlamp rim.

Cheaper units are available, as has been said previously. Just depends on if you want the best output or not, I have cibies with Phillips extreme vision +130% bulbs with relays in the circuit for optimum output.

I bought mine off eBay I'm sure they were only about £30

For photometry charts for multiple headlamp units, if you are interested.

The cibies are Cibie_7_iso and Hella are Hella_7_iso

Mine were cheapo mk1 golf lights off ebay - I had them sat in the garage and just whacked them in. They're kind of a tight fit but did the job right!

Know this is a bit of an old thread, but I need new lamps in my70.
Can I ask how you mounted the sealed units in? I currently only have the one tab to take the stock 3 screw lights.

I bought beetle 3 screw headlights in the end. Fit a treat and look better as there original hella ones
