I have been preping my engine for new twin carbs. Also my generator packed up so I thought I would replace it with an alternator. I couldn't get the inner half of the pulley off the old generator so bought a new one now the fan belt is too big.

Anyone know what size to use with a generator. Engine is 1600 SP with original crankshaft pulley.

Thanks

9.5mm x 905mm according to the various suppliers (JK, etc.).

The alternator variation is definitely 11.3mm x 912mm.

Had a similar issue after swapping from generator to alternator. The new belt that came with the kit is the bigger size but even with no shims it was still to loose so ended up using the smaller belt supposed to be for a generator. What I was confused by is: If the pulley centres are still the same distance apart why would you need a longer belt or is the correct alternator pulley larger, as one did not come with the kit?

When i made the changeover the slackness was due to a **** top pulley.

I have since changed it for a billet jobby and is now much better with the proper sized belt

Just a thought :msn4:
