Looking at the question regarding rear arches, i realized that my front arches are from a '72

anybody else got different front arches, or is it just me =(

Some crossovers have the flared arches and some flat like pre 71 bays. your van is what it is. Im always of the opinion if replacing arches replace with what was there originally. cool van you have for sure and those arches dont look out of place at all.

Have your arches been replaced before? are you worried they should have been flat?

EDIT: im blind i just noticed those should be flat arches

I thought it was a crossover :( its still not a big deal, some are anal about it but if its a good fit and your doors close tight then i wouldnt worry too much :)

Hey just think it will be a talking point in the shows people going across it trying to spot if anything else has been done or different....

i'm not too bothered, just wish that the PO who had it restored had realized there not original.. plus i've never noticed before! they do fit fine, and i know they have been replaced before.. so there's no concern for me

good fitting early arches are rare as well usually nos or rust free ogs is the only way to get a good fit.

Does anyone actually produce repro early arches of good quality? :?

i guess its one more on the list before she becomes even close to a show van

im sure FBI have some rust free ones, but i can't say i've seen any repros about

*EDIT* i think alan schofield has some

Nah - I had some from AS and VWH and they were both from that
factory in Denmark and a cr@p fit. The guy that welded them had to cut and re-weld in the middle to get even a passable profile even then you can see air through the bottom..

.. sound like your best off with good fitting 'wrong' one IMHO.

I would recommend getting second hand genuine front arches too, mine where from VW Heritage and where a right pain to fit.I wish I'd known then what I know now

Can you still get em tho? See a mate of mine has just bought a x-over and has one repairable arch and one knackered one!! And mine should be lipped but have been replaced with flat..

Cheers
