My 69 clutch really has given up the ghost so need to replace, but which one o I go for, nothing is as easy as a 1969 clutch and do I need all the bits ? Or just the friction pads? Or am I better off buying the whole lot and renew for years more hassle free driving

The vw heritage look good but there are so many o chose from ?

Have a look at this thread buddy

Depends on which year bus/gearbox combination you have

Nice easy job when the engine is out of the bus

Whilst they both say for a beetle the part numbers from the LUK catalogue are correct for a bus as well

As Stu said beetle/bus makes no difference. This is the one for a 69 http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/buy/VOLKSWAGEN/BEETLE/1.5/1966/__/33/transmission/luk-clutch-kits/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; assuming you have the original gearbox still. That kit is the equivalent of this one on heritage but over £40 cheaper :) http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Clutch-kit-200mm-w-pad-Sachs-111198141X_act_shop.product_pID_55183.htm?crumbStartPage=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you are taking it out to change it then I would do the whole lot for peace of mind

In my experience, unless you're working to a short timescale and need to have the parts to hand, get the motor out first and find out what you've got / need.
After forty years, what the books say it should have and what you may actually find is in there can be two very different things :msn4:

Most of the time Pressure plates are fine to re-use,unless they are scored to much? ,check flywheel for deep scoring too ;)
I stand on the P.P. and see how much of my weight it holds :mrgreen: if it's too easy to compress I find another P.P. and just by a new fiber disc.
this works with my Drag VW's don't see why it won't work with a Bus :lol:

Thank for the input guys I take the engine out tomorrow and find out for sure thanks for the links guys

hmmm mine look nothing like that more like the late one, in the log book it says engine change 1972 but its still a single port and the original gear box i think, can an early type 1 engine run the later clutch?

Main thing is the clutch diameter and whether the gearbox has a sleeve. That will determine which clutch kit you need. Pics should clear it up :)
