Hi all,

So for long journeys it is a good idea to have oil pressure & Temperature Gauges so you can see how things are in that department?!

I want to fit some before Ninove so I can keep an eye on things, but have an already growing list of things to do, so want to know if its a relatively easy job & would like some help with what to do please?

I need to know what I need: Parts & best place to get them from/fittings cable etc.
And Pics if possible to help would be cool.

If you can help that would be cool.
Thankyou.

Paul. :D

Why do you want gauges?
Just seems like something to stare at and worry about to me personally.
If all the tinware and seals are present and correctly fitted, and the timing, valve clearances and mixture are spot on then you'll be fine.

Hold you to that!! ;)
Sound like my Dad!!!!!

Why do you need fukoff rev counters on the dash so you can't see F'all out the front windscreen ???

Its coz we likes them!!
No sense......

'cos I've got a stroker motor in the rear ;)

Show off!!!!!!!

Aren't we all?

Temp gauge is a good idea in my opinion but like Wig said, they do make you stress a little constantly looking at them. I still think it's better than running the motor too hot and doing some damage.

You just need to decide what sender you want. Dipstick senders are easy to install but don't give an accurate reading. You need to get a sender that taps into the bottom of the sump but not that easy to do. I'm sure someone else can give you some more accurate info.

their auxiliary series gauges 52mm are not that expensive and there are the most accurate in the market. They are not that expensive if you take into consideration the cost of new stroker engine

the stack gauges will be less than a £100 for the pair looking on ebay.

My opinion, I have oil temp and pressue gauges fitted in my van, fitted them with the new engine and I seem to spend the whole time I drive it looking at them and not the road. Paranoid that my engines going to go pop. I never worried with my standard lump I just rev'd the nuts off it...

Personally I'd spend the money on a full engine service and replace the gearbox oil a couple of weeks before the trip, Paul.

I will give it all i have & take it to me mate at DG Motors for a piece of mind!!

Cheers Simon. :D

Love this last line!

And thanks to all, I was planning to put guages in somewhere (not on view as I think they are fugly), but the odd check now and then. Don't think I'll bother now!

I've been thinking along the same lines just for some comfort but perhaps ignorance is bliss...? just in case you reconsider, I haven't dug it out yet but I'm pretty sure Volksworld did a review of some gauges within the last 12 months - might have been tachos though...I'll let you know if I find it.

Early VW on here also sells gauges - see his post in the For Sale - Non-EarlyBay section :)
