I'm curious,

Was it a template that was provided to companies to use in a 'franchise' kind of way, or were they made by one company and provided to 3rd parties do do the conversions.

We have a plaque on the inside of the passenger door saying something like 'conversion by J.P.White of Sidmouth' which is the same as on the brochure here (scroll down to the red one).

So were these guys the source of the Devon interior, or just one small outfit amongst many fitting it?

Devon was the trade name of J. P. White of Sidmouth - they made all the Devon conversions and were the only UK firm authorised to sell VW campers by Volkswagen (much like Westfalia in Germany) in the UK.

Nobody else made Devon conversions - they were made and installed exclusively by J. P. White.

The firm was sold some time ago but unfortunately all records were lost/destroyed which is not helpful if, like me, you've got a Devon van but no interior!!!

There are some great websites out there with history of Devons/info
:
This is the website for the company that bought the Devon name - don't phone them for info about your bus, they can't help!

Katy Kombi's site:

;)

Thanks for this,

All clear now.

Those sites look good (but not the devonconversions one, that looks quite boring!), loads of info on the Katy Kombi site.

Lots to look at there, it would appear now that tea's going to be delayed a longer......promised my long suffering girl friend curry 3 hours ago :D
