Why do you lower?

You can use a slammed bus as a camper. I did for 2 years(my westy is this low and its going to be used as our family camper), family holidays touring Cornwall. 1000 miles in a week. Different campsite's, crossed on a ferry, did the euro tunnel and drove to Ninove and back in a weekend, with no major problems, the odd scrape here and there no biggy. I like the look of low vehicles. And I find people who have not owned a low bus, tell me it won't get onto camp sites, go over speed bumps or it dangerous ? I didn't find anywhere I couldn't get and all my running gear it new.

I think low buses - infact any low v-dubs - look proper cool. But I could show you a few places that my bus wouldn't go ( dropped spindles) without majorly damaging the beam, belly pan, exhaust etc. but the main thing that I really didn't like - which is why it's back to stock - is having incorrect load rated tyres. Apart from the obvious comfort loss of low profiles the lack of sidewall strength was noticeable.
Also an issue was that we use the bus on short trips unloaded and long trips fully loaded and the difference in height is considerable!
I do miss being able to reach the roof rack more easily though
Mainly what I like is how every bus is different and shows their own kind of personality 8)

Because I love the way it looks and it has never stopped me going where i want. each to there own if you want it stock have it stock if you want to lower it do that. variety is the spice of life and there is no right and wrong

My brother got put on the top deck of the ferry on our hols and took off his exhaust on the ramp - just to sayt that lowered buses do need to take more precautions - especially vw hating ferry loaders :(

Sorry Clem - I thought yours was a one spliner - apparently not - I stand corrected.

So what your saying is you can still camp as long as you dont mind the noise, a bit of tobogganing and leaving some metal here and there

Not for me - but fun to watch somebody else doing it

I was, but it's developed since :) I don't 'wild camp' as such, but regular camping is never a problem, well, so far ....

Gotta say i love a slammed bus! they look amazing!

Was all up for lowering mine but after going to wrigleys aircooled in oswerstry the owner came in a slammed splitty looked stunning only to wait 2-3 minutes for him to get over the speedbump i thought maybe not, unfortunately we have a shared drive and ours is about 6-7 inches higher so it would hit every time

LOVING THE BUSSES IN THIS THREAD!! defo reconsidering!!! (it'll be all of your faults if I end up single when the bus is finished!! )

(Bays are just cool no matter what!) slamming is a personal choice........i'm just confused now on what to do!

I like quite a low bus, spindles and perhaps another inch lower, I think they look good and mine seems to drive lovely.
What shocked me was even my dad 65 year old dad said the van looked better dropped spindles !!!! Not sure he was keen the sprints though.

Mines on an adjustable front beam and horse shoe plates looks better and handles a million times better quieter while driving too!!

People don't lower late bays as often because...why would you bother?
