I know I'm naive but, is it hard to keep it looking the way it does?

Hey Faux,
It really is what I want, I love it. I do not want a shiny bus, to me a bus should be like the owner and I am certainly a bit rough around the edges, bohemian and turn heads wherever I go (ho ho ho)! I just want a super cool bus that I can take the family away in at weekends, to the shows and to France for a surfing trip. I need practical to a certain extent but I want something that's a bit different and original. This certainly has that going for it. To me it's perfect.

I would need the seatbelts to fit kids seats in and that would be it (hopefully). I shall give him a call, thanks for the advise. If I get it I'll definately come and see you in it.

Thanks
Si

Hi Si

In that case you are not going to find a cooler bus than this, with all of the work done for this price. Decide whether you want to haggle on price or try to haggle a 1776 motor. Matt Keene is a well known engine builder and it would be a good bargaining tool if you wanted to go down this route.

If you buy it I'll organise a few people to meet up in Ross on Wye and we can get a couple of rear belts in or you can ask Matt to put some in for you. It may have lap belts fitted in the rear already.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks again Guys,
I do really like it. It's a bit out of budget (there goes the kids savings LOL).

This van has to be the hardest looking Westy in the UK by a long shot. As for everything sorted I would not have any problems buying it when the current owner has a reputable name in the scene and even does all the technical features for Volksworld due to knowledge and track record.

Might be worth trying to do a deal with the 1776 engine that used to sit in the back rather than the 1600 as listed with the CSP tuck away exhaust.

Hey Kempy,
Have you seen this van in the flesh then? I presume you have since you know what engine it was running. Is the 1776 a lot better?
Do you know the Guy as well?

I was hoping to knock the price down a bit. Don't think he would with that engine in!
Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon,

Sorry no I haven't seen the van in the flesh just from on here.

Check this out and the past threads to see whats been done.

I phoned Matt, looks like it's PROBABLY sold :(

Someone came to see it and will let him know on monday. Bit gutted, I'll call him just in case.

Maybe it's for the best, it would always be seen as "Matt Keen's van' not mine (well I have to make myself feel better).

Maybe I should buy a Van for 5k take it to T2D and say 'do your best'.

This has made me see one thing though;

I WILL OWN AN EARLY BAY VERY SOON!

Have you seen the super solid Red EB in the Forsale section?...believe they dont come much better than that for the money.Have a chat with Tim(Monkey spinner).Real nice bloke who really knows his stuff when it comes to hardcore slamming etc 8)

least then you can call it 'yours'

Just a thought :)

What you need to consider is the other halfs Psyche......

now is she more likely to go for something like say for example Hank a very nicely sorted westy or a hardcore bus like this, maybe something in between that will rope you in and get you wanting to stamp your mark on it, I get the feeling that a rat is out the question, and panels/DC/SC dont come into it, but there are some very well priced solid used busses in the for sale, that show a good hard working life once you've figured that little dilema out your onto a winner as from that moment of realisation a whole world opens up before you, the dreaming can stop and the search in earnest begins......

dont be fooled by what these guys on hear say there missus deffinately have the last say, any man that says they dont is either a sad loner sat in front of their computer in their y-fronts shoveling pizza into their face, bitter divorcee, a liar or dillusional......

Get her indoors on side and make her think its her decision..... believe me it works.....ssshhhhhhh you cant tell helen that though.........

Above van + half decent westy interior + nice lowering job and a cool set of wheels, few other nice mods and extras and you will have one hell of a van, oh and about 3 grand change and I know you dont get a pop top but even they are available though I would prefer to keep it a tin top and just use an awning.

No disrespect to you fella but im sort of taking offence to this remark!

I have a Mrs and 3 kids.We do everything together...the usual family stuff but me owning a van is 'My 'Thing...the Mrs's words not mine.

Ive owned over 15 Vw's and have choice them all...WEBCO Single cab...would a bloke with a Mrs and Kids be buying that??

Just my personal view to your remark and yes you could say im one of the lucky one  but please could you add that to your statement...im niether sad or like pizza 8)

to be honest i'm a bit upset by it too...

yes my wife controls me in a sort of demonic puppetmaster / feeble-minded marionette kind of scenario BUT that doesn't mean i'm not a sad loner sat slumped in front of a computer in a darkened bedroom as well :x

and it's toblerone, not pizza thank you very much

Going off track from the original post

But my Mrs pretty much leaves me to it with the VW thing. She reaps the benefits of free camping trips away with the little one without the responsibility of maintenance etc.

I think she is the clever one.....

Sorry to hear it may be sold

But there are plenty more out there, and plenty of people to give it the stance you want.

Get something solid, with a good camping interior, the lowering is the easy bit.

i wouldnt buy a bus that carried such a weight of popularity on its shoulders mate. like you say if you turn up to a show everyone says its the last owners bus. if you leave it as is you get the tag of someone who buys a cool bus and does nowt with it. or the other way is if you change it you have the tag of someone who ruins a cool bus.
in the water cooled dub scene i it happens too. one of te best mk2 golfs has recently been broke up because no one wanted to be the one to buy it and get the tag. it was a £30k car and he would have taken less than half but it still didnt shift.
if i were you mate i would buy the red deluxe on here. think about how you want it and mke it your own bus. it has the pottential to be as good if not better than the one you wanted and to top it off it will be known to all as your bus :D

i imported the red deluxe everyone keep bigging up, its def as solid as they come, and cool patina too

I agree with what several peeps have said, get a good US import, plenty of bargains to be had, and then make it your own

i didnt realise that it was the same bus that you were sporting a while back. that one really does have the potential to be awsome.i do think that you need to put £3k aside for suspension and brakes and thats without air ride. i know the first thing i will be doing once my bus is done and shiney, is getting on the look out for a more ratty og looking bus to do something a little more daring with air tubs etc, i loved the orange single cab that of recent volksworld. when my workshop is built i would love to start making some quality localy made suspension components

I do like the Red bus but there's one problem. I really need a pop top, whilst the kids are young I want to keep us all together whilst sleeping. In the future it won't be such an issue.

Hi Guys,
I've been thinking about what a number of you have been saying about Matt's Bus. I agree that there will always be people who will say things about having a van that has been customized by someone else. Thing is though, I have neither the time or expertise to make a bus my own. I would put my own slant on a bus in terms of the interior, stickers etc but I would not have a clue about lowering or such like so would be paying someone else to make a Bus look like Matt's anyway! :D

When it comes down to it, I love that Bus and would hope that the VDub community respected the fact that I owned a super cool ride. It would be different anyway, it would have food, toys, nappies everywhere!

If it isn't sold tomorrow then I shall go and see it, at least I would turn some heads in it even if people were only saying 'get your own van' LOL

Cheers again for your thoughts, I love the fact that you're all so passionate in your ideas.

Simon.
