I'm looking for a nice cheep set of Wiide 5 wheels, preferably 15", but the cheaper the better.

I want to run my van slammed on 15" rims for a few weeks, before the summer time when it will be set up for comfy family transportation!!

Try here...

the wide 5 semi slots are beetle & may only be 4.5 or 5 inch ,you might ask Grazy or Slammed cos they are running 15in steelies

Those 66 only wheels are well worth the price, slight tuck on them too. Think they're 5j. 8)

He's right the wide 5 "66 only" semi slots are 4.5inch...the correct tyre for these are 165s ( debate starts here " is it safe" when tyre should be 185)

classycampers - if you could that would be cool

Harlequin - we all love a good debate, but that size would be fine on that tyre ;) saying that on my TT i run a 225x40x18 on a 10" rim now thats a debate over tyre size!!

where did i read once that the slotted beetle rim wasn't up to the job of carrying the weight of a bus ?

volksworld ?

was it peter noad, or bob shail, or one of those *types* ?

come to think of it, was it a '356' rim rather than a beetle rim ?

did i dream it ?

in our little town we have a newsagents that opens up into a sort of aladdin's cave of toys and tat, and a couple of days before christmas, running very low on staples - specifically the 10/4mm spec. ones - and with it obviously weighing on my mind, i had a dream that the shop was full... alright, not quite full... there was still practical classics magazine, jigsaws, wotsits and greeting cards of cats looking at other cats looking at the sea... but quite full, especially in the 'stationary' aisle, of staples... sort of like those pictures of joe gallagher's wheel collection, only with different designations of staple replacing the fuchs, sprintstars and so on and so on.

IMAGINE MY DISAPPOINTMENT when i dragged myself down there on christmas eve to find it had all been, well, i knew it was a dream but a dream of unfulfilled promise if you like, and the only 10/4mms to be seen were bundled in with a stapler for £2.89... and i've already got a stapler in that size...

swizz :?

of course, on my way out... across the alleyway, past the antique shop and there's the resin elephant sat crying... would i ever have seen him were it not for the staple dream ? was it a sign ?

*life's rich pageant*

good luck with the wheels... i like those 'crow's feet' wheels you get on certain years of splitty... don't see many of them on bays OR beetles to be honest... wonder why that is ?

Axl.....go for the extreme Cal-look.....2CV tyres I think they are 125s 0r 135s...and cheap
Councillor....I have loads of No.11 6mm staples.....can post

My mistake, I read that as wide 5, not 5" wide!

A friend of mine has been running 66 only wheels on his hi po splitty for years now with no problems. :)

yeah... i know... i threw it in for a couple of reasons, one being the deliberate 'tenuousness' of the information... "i think i might have read etc. etc." the other being that even though i could go and dig out the article, is it fact based, or just internet-style speculation from the days before the internet, if you get my drift

that said, i could *theoretically* blindfold myself and run across the A30 at kingsley village 13 times every april fools' day for "years with no problems" but i'd only ever need to be hit by one vehicle... same with catastrophic wheel failure... ever heard of russian roulette

that's a ridiculous example i know, and i'm sure your mate's bus is cool as fuck and safe as houses, but i've learnt fairly recently that if you have a piece of information that you think might be relevant... even if it seems daft... it's best to share it, 'cos you never know when it might turn out to be the most important thing you ever did :|

Feel free to add that quote to the dropped spindles debate too...

Doesn't your argument open up all manner debate on wheel suitability for buses though?
Like people running Ercos or magnesium race wheels on buses? Where does it stop?

I drove all the way to Bug In 2 and back on stock pre-65 bug wheels and the thought didn't even cross my mind. What I do know is that I'll always feel safer running stock wheels than aftermarket, no matter if they're on my oval or my bus.

I've just realised this whole post is a bit pointless, oh well, good luck with your wheel search AxlFoley. 8)

Sorry Axl ....don't care about wheels anymore ....now concerned about councillors broken dreams/sleepless nights......have these ............

bang on. you've got my drift 100% mate... as soon as you start to deviate from stock, you're in a (literal) minefield, and i for one can't cope with it all; spindles, adjusters, notches, ackerman, caster, tyre rating, wheel rating and on and on and on and on :x

stock buses are ace aren't they 8)

by the way, pre-65 wheels are a different thing altogether; i think it's the slots that are the concern isn't it
