The old bus has had a mini 6 month resto which is nearing completion, I just put complete new cab window seals, 1/4 light seals & the fuzzy stuff round the cab door where the main window slides up & down.
Me problem is the windows on both sides are solid to winde up & down to the point where I,m scared of breaking something. Will they bed in or will some sort of a lube help. Before the whizzed up & down no probs, all seals purchased from Status VW.

Are they fixed quarter lights?

Are they pushed right towards the front of a van, with the two small screws and 10mm bolt fitted? I usually tap them in with a rubber mallet.

Is the fuzzy weather strip around the top and side nearest the rear of the van pushed all the way in? Sometimes is a bit tricky to get to sit correctly in the top corner.

They do bed in and ease up over time as well.

yes fixed 1/4 lights that are definatly sat all the way home with screws etc all fitted, the fuzzy channel bits are deffo all in properly so i,ll just have to hope they free up with use.

put some grease in the winder mechanism and wind it through a few times to spread it out.

also check that where the mechanism attaches to the bottom of the window that it is lined up correctly before tightening the bolts up.

The window winder is in a plastic tube. Turn it upsidedown and fill the tube with oil, engine oil will be fine. Then leave it work down the tube so the felt inside becomes soaked in oil. Then keep working it back and forth, so the whole length of it becomes oiled.

If the windows went up and down fine before why would the winder mechanisms be seized/stiff?

I think its worth backing the screws and bolt on the quarter light off a couple of turns and tapping it home with a rubber mallet.Had to do this yesterday to a van with badly fitted seals. All the screws and bolts were in and the rubber was touching the door but just needed to move about 5mm towards the front of the van. Also loosen off the bolts that hold the window to the mechanism and check the alignment of the window to the seals.
I never need to lube the seals when I built cab doors (and I put new seals in cab doors often!)
