You’re right we got lucky again, just a nice temp for doing the Ingleton Waterfall Trail and no rain this morning when packing up.

Managed to get home, get everything cleaned and even had time to finally fix that pesky inside latch on the sliding door before the heavens opened.

It’s been bugging me for ages, but now it locks from the inside as well as the outside ... result [emoji106]

Such a good idea by the Mrs ... it houses the coolbox the toolbox and the wee-box (aka porta-loo) which sits on top of the spare wheel to bring it to just the right height (so I believe [emoji23])

Winnie went to her first festival this weekend - Tribfest ... the worlds largest tribute band festival.

The weather on the drive over was horrendous, we went cross country from Croston Lancs via Skipton, Harrogate, Knaresborough & York as the motorways were chockablock, took us over 3hrs to get there.

There was plenty of folk struggling to get onto their pitches through the mud but no problem for Winnie, especially with her new rear boots, gone for Nexen CT8 195/70/15 ... was a bit worried about the clearance as the van is slightly lowered but they are a great fit and almost exact to original rolling diameter.

Saw this funky crossover on the way down to the arena ... had a chat with the owner, cool dude.

We heard ... Led Zep, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, The Killers, The Smiths, Specials, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, The Doors, Beastie Boys, Madness, Dolly Parton and many many more ... I say heard because of course they’re not the real thing, but close your eyes and drink loads of ale and hey, they well could be. Such a wealth of talent, It was like a Mini Glastonbury ... even had Fireworks at the end [emoji23]

Fab weekend, we’ll be back again next year.

Back home all clean, loving the new stance too, think I’ll put the same tyres on the front pretty soon, they performed well also [emoji23] [emoji106]

We’re determined to get a couple more trips away before the end of the year. This weekend we’ve travelled all of 50 miles to Orcaber Lane farm at Austwick, just on the edge of Forest of Bowland.

Cracking site, nice and quiet, great pitches, fantastic views and exceptional shower block.

Just off the A65 near Setle.

There was a lovely airstream a couple of pitches up from us.

We got really lucky with the Saturday weather, it was torrential on Friday night, thank goodness for a hard standing pitch.

Nice one and sounds like you are getting the most out of your van before the weather turns for the worst :)

We managed to squeeze in one final trip of the year before Winnie went into hibernation, it wasn’t looking too promising with all the rain we’ve had but I had my eye on Cumbria as being a dry’ish spot for last weekend.

Booked onto the National Trust site at Wasdale, it’s the starting point for climbing Scarfell Pike, close to Wast Water. Cracking little site, new shower and toilet block, good secluded hard standing pitches, will definitely go back next summer and tackle the big hill.

The Wasdale Inn is a Dog friendly pub about a mile away from the site that had great food good ale and a fine selection of local gin.

Winnie was flawless throughout, the diesel heater kept the cab toastie on the journey up and back, she also passed through 89k ... for the first time? Who knows [emoji848]

Happy New Year ... I love it when Winnie’s Road Tax reminder pops through the door.

B) ... Camper Season is fast approaching

Hi Matty,

I noticed a few posts ago you fixed your inside sliding door lock. On mine the locking tab just flaps about a little, doesn't engage with anything and feels like it is being held back by something. Was yous similar? If so what you did you do to fix it? (I haven't actually investigated yet).

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

Sounds like a similar problem to mine, initially I thought is was the striker plate but then found out that it was an issue with the adjusting rods that go to the back catch.

cd8040091a87fe25bfba70297397382f.jpg

For the door to lock when those rods are set correctly and the door is closed, the handle is pushed in the opposite direction to when opening, then you’ll hear a click and the latch will drop fully down.

I take it that you can lock the door from the outside?

280ede0ad0cbaf16201e77e5029e1eba.jpg

The other problem I caused myself was that initially my interior handle was 180 deg out (it interfered with the buddy/portaloo) ... this doesn’t allow enough movement when trying to lock from the inside. I overcame this by shifting the seat inwards and it now works fine.

Hope this helps

Ah right, I see, it sounds like I wasn't even doing it properly. I didn't realise (or forgot, had a bay 20 odd years ago!) that the handle needs moving first. I'll try that when I get home, maybe no fix required :) Looks like I could do with an owners manual! Thanks for the reply.

Just checked and my door handle doesn't seem to have any "lock" movement once it's shut or when its open. It does though when it's nearly shut, like when you don't quite shut it properly. This doesn't seem to do much though and the lock is still the same. I'll have to dismantle it and investigate.

What I did was disconnect the 2 long nuts on the screwed rods then restart the threads and slowly retighten them until I had the necessary action. From memory I made that adjustment with the door closed.

As there is no non essential travel I thought I’d get Winnie in front of the house to do some non essential jobs ... and some jobs that I didn’t quite get finished over the winter.

It also gave us a good self isolation option in the event of one of us developing the symptoms [emoji1787]

The air inlet for the diesel heater is now piped in to under the rock and roll bed, rather than drawing in cold air from under the van.

Fitted an additional socket on the hook up circuit at the cab end so we’ve not got leads trailing everywhere when we’re on site.

Squeezed in a mains/leisure USB hub at the cab, as you can never have enough USB ports these days can you [emoji16]

I recently went away from an 009 (although I do now have a Bosch 009 as a spare) but as it is well documented the H30/31 carb isn’t suitable for SVDA. So I managed to get a decent condition Bosch 113905205T vac advance only dizzy ... stripped, ultrasonic cleaned and re-shimmed with new fibre washers and shaft felt wick. Vac can was good, holding well with full movement by 80mm Hg.

Also stripped and cleaned the Carb, upping the main jet to x130 and renewing the seals and float. Gave it a back to base set up and just static timed dizzy at 0 until I get my gun from my garage. Fired up ok, few slight tweaks to smooth out but will double check again with gun.

Need a better method of securing the vac pipe though [emoji85]

Finally got round to replacing the valance seal, after removing some comedy length bolts ... just about managed to get them out without having to remove the bumper. Shortened them by 20mm to make reassembly easier. Cleaned and painted the underside of the valance as it was looking a bit scabby before bolting it back. Full seal went in easier than I expected [emoji106]

Ordered some new fuel hose and the engine lid seal has split, which is disappointing as they were all top quality new seals only a few years ago. So I’ll be ordering one of them once I’ve convinced myself which is the best quality option.

Winnie is 50 this coming Friday 03/04/20, so added a few period details, the 50 badge will be removed once we’re all back on the road. It’s just a Birthday badge for now [emoji106]

Nice work on your van. Did you set the static timing to zero because it's a vacuum advance dissy?
Plenty of time to work on these old buses at the moment, unless you are in a key worker role.
Your dog is such a comedian!

Cheers Mike,

We’ve been classed as essential workers ourselves but I’ve been suffering with severe cabin fever when stuck at home and needed to keep myself occupied.

Yeah, total dizzy advance is 32-35 deg at 80mm Hg, so 0 deg is the idle setting on the 205T according to what I’ve read. The proof will be in the pudding I guess once I get chance to take her for a spin.

I’ve got my gun now, so will time at idle before putting her back in the garage, hmm think I’ll go the long way round [emoji16]
