Just fitted a new release bearing and although it seems secure ie. wont fall off, the clips do not hold the bearing tight and accordingly has a fair amount of play in it in all directions. It is a new bearing and wondered if anyone can tell me if this is normal or not before I put the engine back in and find out the hard way it was a faulty one! Thanks

Yes I guess i do. The bearing is brand new and the clips do not look bent but do not seem to hold the bearing tight against the forks.

just put one on mine got the same feeling, the clips dont fit right round the back,
dint take much notice when taking the old one off,but there it wasn't hard to get off
may be thats how they are.

Use empi heavy duty clip stock ones come off as I found and bounce around inside the bell housing.

My gear box (1971) uses the later style bearing and it appears from a catalogue that the heavy duty clips are for an early style bearing so don't think that will help?
