Had a quick spin in my 68 today and everything was fine, until I came to shift down to go round a round about.as I went to put her in 3 rd she would only grind like buggery.i managed to hammer into 3rd but it was the same story with all 4 gears
It feels as though the pedal doesn't do anything.
Could it be the clutch cable? Or the conduit? Or something else?

Matt

It's could be the cable or the forks or the clutch.

You need to get under the bus and watch the clutch arm on the bell housing while somebody operates the pedal to see what's happening.

Right been under the van.

Everything seems to be connected ok.
When i sit and put her into the different gears no problem.
When I do the same thing with the engine running,it grinds into the gears and only with a bit or persuasion does it go into gear.
I can set off in 1st no problem, pulls away fine but can't change gear.
If I start her in 1st with the clutch pedal DOWN she jolts forward slightly almost as If I was right on the bite point.

Any ideas guys?

I've ordered now clutch cable, wing nut and conduit just In case but do I need a new clutch plate too?
Or is it just adjustments need to be made?

Does it feel correctly adjusted at the pedal? How far does it move before you can feel some resistance?

The clutch is not fully disengaging.

Check free play on the pedal. If there's too much then adjust the cable.

If the free play is correct it could be the cable is on the way out and is stretching rather than moving the forks fully.

Also check the conduit has not come detached.

If all those things check out as correct then its time to take the engine out because the only faults left are the release forks or the clutch itself.

Sounds like the clutch has had it to me. Had the same problem recently but not as extreme.
