I’ve had a Rusty Lee bed for over ten years now. I organised it through Delilahs upholstery peeps that you’ll see on here quite a bit . They organised getting the bed, sorting the foam, upholstering the whole shooting match and my front seats covers and door cards too and as anybody that’s seen my bus will tell you it’s a bit of a pickle but the upholstery is bang on still and it’s always been comfy. I’ve got fabric seat and bed base covers with vinyl edges and the same on my cards. Sleeping on breathable fabric is a lot nicer than vinyl or leather especially if you’re a larger person.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,like me ! :)
Hey Ozzie, glad you're still liking it bud 👍👍

Perfect. That’s the info I was looking for.
Rusty Lee seems to be the one to get. And the original rock and roll bed so they’ve been making them a long time!
Just checked out Delilah’s upholstery. Looks ace. They have a little deal going on atm if you get the whole package through them.

All I need to do now is decide on fabric type and colour.
The more options there are.. the harder it is to choose 😂
Yeah, there are so many options, just drop me an email on the website if you need help or swatches 👍

I’d previously had a piece of roofing batten about eight or ten inches long with a notch cut in both ends but I’d knocked it out while searching in there just one time too many and bashed my head into an even uglier shape than it was already. I toyed with the idea of using an electric window motor while in a Stella had one time. However I sobered up and elected to use the KISS formulae on this occasion.

This got me thinking…
What about a gas strut?? Could use a low resistance one. Something like 100 (N)
It would feel quite satisfying and make a good noise when you open and close it 😂

Don’t forget the seat part has to move quite a lot to become the bed
Ha yea right. I’m commenting on something I’ve never seen in real life or used before 😂
I’ve spent many years as a fabricator so I’m always looking at things and thinking how I can better 🙄

I’m a fan of making solutions as well!
Takes a lot of time in my head first, as I gather bits and make a plan!

It clears a Rusty Lee bed without the riser brackets, remember the bed comes forward as it goes down and doesn't catch, other makes of bed do sometimes

Thanks @Ben72Bay @fallingoffalot @GrahamL

I've now found the fairly recent thread from last year about this aswell...

So, apart from the upper Seat Belt Mount, is the lower one (mines a rounded edge triangle) also clear of where the bed frame mounts on the wheel arch? I'm guessing this would also need to go as the bed frame looks to fit close to where it's mounted.

And, final question - Does that existing hole (think it's original but not 100%) for the lower seat belt mount line up with the one on the bed frame?

No.
Existing is threaded (I think)
Need to drill a new hole for bed fixing.

Don’t worry about spouting out something as I’m a big fan of brainstorming. Takes a lot of false turns to get to some good places.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,Fabricator,,,,, I’m jealous :)
