    1 year old

Tina and I have been together for just over a year now. The original paint wasn't very original, and way too many people tried to "fix" it, so she got shiny again. Sliding door still pretty rough so the decals went on. We went camping twice (once for a week with the whole family), a bunch of...

    a question of width

Yes, offset, tire size, shock choices all play a factor. What I am wondering is more of an approx height as oppossed to an exact one. But to make it simple, lets assume an otherwise stock bus, complete with stock wheels and factory spec tires. P.S. as I read this it sounds bitchy, please know...

    a question of width

I know the lowering topic has been covered in great detail on the forum but I have a question that I have yet to see addressed. How low can a bus be lowered before you NEED to narrow the beam for tire clearance? I know some folks like that look, but this is not a question of astetics. I...

    BodesWell

I just can't stop reading about these guys. 3 1/2 years into living in a bus and seeing the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. I have been reading two months of thier updates a night. Simply awsome.

    Lowering alternative?

Does the Red9 kit attatch the trailing arms just to each other or is there something else that helps to hold the arms in? Also, Was the center rod designed to flex like a torsion bar or was it just a rod? Lastly, did the Red9 kit include anything to beef up the shock mounts?

    Lowering alternative?

OK, I've been thinking, which usually results in somebody losing a finger or something equally exciting but here goes. Has anyone every successfully done, or can give a reason why you can/can't take the center torsion spring mounts out of the front beam completely and then reassemble the front...

Finally was able to stop driving it long enough to take a picture. Her name is Tina, as in patina.

What did you do with your early bay today

I celebrated our two week anniversary by taking out the engine for a second time to correct an oil leak. This time however I forgot to support the tranny before removing the engine, and I did not have the clutch disc lined up well. Made reinstallation less then fun. Also, despite my efforts...

    BUS INS.

Am I missing something here? I added mine to my collectors policy (Hagertys) and it was like $18 extra per year.

Your Early Bay Picture of the Day .....

It works better if you don't have a head  Seriously though, what's the difference between lowering the lid and raising the tubs? This bus did have stock seats though so it would be a little tight. However, I doubt this VW sees any street time. The beach bomb was one of Hot Wheels most...

New to EarlyBay ? Say Hi here ...

Not so much old as crazy, I'm "only" 44. If you count all the cars I've had as oppossed to just VW's, I've had over 150. Recently I tried to downsize, selling my 55' Chevy, 65' Pontiac, 30' Ford, and 64' T-bird. You can see how well that plan is working now that the bus is home.

Your Early Bay Picture of the Day .....

I had to go just past Indianapolis to pick up my new to me bus. While there we took the kids to the childrens museum. No actual kids on display, but they had an awsome Hot wheels display including a life sized Beach Bomb. This bus was chopped by the guys at Barris customs.

What did you do with your early bay today

Today I put it on the trailer and brought it home :D Then I gave it a bath, plugged a vac. leak, set the choke, and talked nice to it. Tommorrow I go to the courthouse and make it all legal.

New to EarlyBay ? Say Hi here ...

Hi, my name is Chris but most call me Ford. I have been lurking here for awhile and haven't wanted to say much for fear of jinksing myself. Today I just arrived home with my new to me 1971 Westy so I figure it is safe to introduce myself now. This makes my 26th VW (my first was a 70' Westy...
