Guys
What a day!!!
Drive from bristol to bournemouth and back for a day out and on the way home i start getting a miss fire. mess with the leads and all ok for a few miles.
Then same again!! but this time if im gentle with the pedal i can have her running ok, hit a hill put my foot down and Bingo miss fire like mad.
Real intermitant missfire can't work out why.
Any ideas? would it be a Knacked 009 dizzy or something else.
Did all the usual last time checked, valves clearances, comp test, plugs, points, leads ran ok for a 100 miles and then crap again.
Help my heads about to explode!!!! :( :(

Sounds just like what I've been enduring with my bus. I've just ordered up a new dizzy today in the hope that it cures the problem so fingers crossed!!!

I've been running cheap rubbish 009's as that was what was supplied with my new engine.

Check for manifold leaks (carb) just in case but other than that I don't know.

Good luck and my empathy

Good to know imnot the only one.
let me know how you get on with the new dizzy. vac advance i guess.
Any idea if there is a vac tube on weber idf carbs?

Cheers
Birdy

Dont forget to check for leaks in you exhaust as this will also cause some nice back fires :D

I'm sure I had a similar issue years ago - light throttle ok, more load - misses. I think I traced it to the HT leads - they had broken down a bit - ok with light throttle but couldn't handle higher loads....but I'm an electrical numpty, so....

sounds silly but did you check points gap, had this twice on the bug last year

As rule 009s suck, as do the repro vac dissy you get from Heritage and the like, get a good second hand stock dissy, get it set up right and work from there.

I've run 009 with dual Dell's, dual Solex 40 PII-4 from manymany miles with no problems. Keep in mind that there is german 009 and there's brazilian alcohol engine, even chinese??? 009 out there.
