Underneath your bed :)
My van has failed its MOT so the spare gearbox has to go (I know that as soon as I sell it the damned gearbox on the bus will after 40 years, 1 week and 1 day.. break... Just saying it doen here on paper so to speak as my other half never believes it when I predict football goals or near disasters...).

the gearbox is in the shed so I will need to empty shed to get to it....... Then take photos and find code. It was supposed to be a 2 litre bay one when I bought it, then I got it sent to be reconditioned and was told it was a 1600 gearbox.. No worries as I had a 2l and a 1600 bay then.

bad things

it's in the shed
I need to check codes and take photos
Since being reconditioned it's been in the shed since 2005!
Not sure if not being moved in shed for so many years is bad or not!
cannot find any paperwork / old emails from A1
It's on Anglesey :(
Price
Too heavy for me to get from shed so collection only methinks

good points

it was reconditioned by A1 Transmissions Bolton
It was taken straight to shed and never been used ie zero mileage
I need to take photos and find code ;)
it's on Anglesey :)
Price

I may try to reach it to take photos later this evening before I start a fire near the shed !! Please bear with me on the price issue but I need to double check code and look at it before I decide. Am I allowed to say open to offers?

:) hi mate your shed sounds like mine
when decide a price can you let me know cheers rich

Thanks for reply.

I thought it best to check the code o. It first so battled past 3 bikes, lawnmower, scarifier mower thing, hundreds of spiders and voila here is the code from the top of it.

piccies tomorrow I hope and maybe a decision on price. i will not be pricing it as a recon as it has been many years since it was reconditioned so I am sure somebody will have a very good deal on this. I do need to get it picked up asap not just bought and picked up weeks alter sorry as I also want to empty the shed for winter.

hi issay, i would like first dibs on your gearbox please depending on the price of course and could you tell me where you live. Dont suppose your going to vw festerval this weekend are you. cheers rich.

Hi

Thanks for reply - i have been busy last couple of days trying to find decent welder etc etc

I promise to get photos by end of week. I am an Anglesey!

:) hey up issay just wondered if you had a price and pictures yet cheers mate rich

hi sorry sorry sorry.

I am having terrible week with the van and the saga is getting worse so I am going to have to withdraw gearbox from sale as I haven't time to even think about it.

Basically van needed welding - finding welder - quote from welder -waiting for welder to fit me in - starter motor goes yesterday - AA get me going - decisions decisions - garage to fix starter motor and then MOT runs out or van to welder and then garage collect for MOT... garage recommends get welding done... van at welder - welder changes mind BIG TIME on verbal quote he;d given me twice before quoting fire risk, insurance, no space (Loadssss space) and from £150 quote for all the bits we'd talked about changes it to at least £750!! He knew my van wouldn;t start and was running out of MOT so putting me into corner. I agreed he just weld underneath seatbelt area (main MOT failure rather than corrosion in arches) so cycled back some miles yesterday (not fit!). A couple of hours later he phones saying even that job is going to cost more and wanted me back again (cycling there and back arghhh!) - so I say I'll contact him today.

I contacted garage who did MOt (and recommended him!!) and they said they'd go an get it today as I didn;t want this bloke near my van anymore and at least get starter motor fixed in meantime.... got call from welder last half hour and he's refusing to release my van to garage unless I pay him £50 for 'work' he's done so far! Now he was quite happy yesterday with me paying him by cheque for agreed work £150 without any qualms or knowing who I was or where I lived. Today he's holding my van hostage!! I said I'd pay him £50 but want van released as I trusted him with my van worth a considerable amount more than £50!!! Saga continuing.....

I am sooooooo hating welders!!!! He's added extra stress and more annoyingly am now 2 weeks back to where I started with having to find a welder and MOT runs out in 1 week.........

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(sorry)

(failed early MOT but old MOT still valid for one week - hazy gray area of law that one but am not driving it at moment obviously due to starting motor!!)

Thats not the Code thats just the part number for that element of the assembly, the Gearbox code will be embossed rather than in repose and will start with two letters CA for example..... it will be quite different to all other numbers on the gearbox, just after the nose cone and along the left side I think from memory......

I thought I had!

Some Autoglym and toothbrush then...l ? Is it the very top bit with the sticky out thing I'm cleaning????

no not the nose cone the main body after that if memory serves me its left hand side above the axis so upper half, it will span the webs and is quite large

hey up Issy glad to hear your day got better:) just wondered if you had a price yet?

I think I need to check the code to check exactly what it is. Found area where code is and tried cleaning for an hour but inly made out 2 numbers and need to spend more time cleaning to find letter code

i am thinking £350 is price based in that is what ipaid that to a1 bolton to recondition it but it has also been in shed for several years and I cannot guarantee it.

there isn't thick oil on the section with the code on just really difficult to get rid of the thin film or crud which has been on the case for so long I guess. Getting there slowly and perhaps.. Perhaps start of code may be cl???
