I have recently rebuilt the original calipers on my crossover 72 bay.

After a few trips, after an hour or so they are still squeeling, so have come to the conclusion, i need to replace the calipers with new ones, as well as new discs.

I asked just kampers, which calipers i needed, and they were unsure, being a crossover, which calipers i need.

any tips on finding out which ones i need to order, before i strip them all off the camper? i have read that the 71-72 ones are smaller and the 73- are larger, but thats all i know.

the chassis number is- 2122141624

going to go with the geniune vw ones from Status VW-

help!

but if you only have squealing when you brake changing the calipers will make no differance,if they are noisy all the time then yes it could be a piston sticking causing pad to rub.champher leading edge of pad and make sure you have good quality pads as some of the cheap ones have dodgy material.copper grease the back and sliding edges of the pad as well and if you can find some fit the stainless pad backing(anti squeal)plates.the noise is caused by the pad vibrating.

sorry should have been clearer.

the squeeling is not on braking, when i turn the wheel one way slightly, the squeeling from the brake starts to sound. this only happens after an hour of driving (when the brakes have warmed up) so pretty sure that the pistons in the calipers arent returning.

I read somewhere that the pads not returning and squealing can be caused by the flexible hoses breaking up inside dont ask me the exact mechanical science behind it though

As regards the calipers I'm not sure that new ones are available, I dont think I have ever seen any ... do check as they might actually be refurbished :?: :?:

the hoses are all brand new top quality ones, so i know its not that. maybe old discs?

STILL STANDS ON CHAMPERING THE PADS,check wheel bearing play as well ,may be to much.

New calipers are refurbished. I bought mine from brakes international as it was cheapest....
Could it be anything to do with master cylinder?

Brakes Internationl for me too, first class service.

brakes international.... can't fault em when i received my calipers from them i rang them to arrange sending back my old ones and commented on the fact that the recons as i thought they would be looked to good and got the impression that they are actually new stock that also fits something else non dub. and paid a good 100quid less than price from a dub specialist, would def use them again have them saved in my bookmarks

and to answer your original query its the 71-72 inc.

there were two versions in 71 the single and twin nippled, the twin carried through to the 72. The larger calipers came into being for the start of 73, remember were talking production years here so aug 72.
