As I am currently replacing my roof, I have been through a lot of 1mm cutting discs. I decided to try a different type each time I ran out to see if it was worth paying extra for "better quality". Here are my findings for those that have wondered the same thing. I got all my discs from Screwfix.
In short, no. Get the cheapest you can find (unless you really are that good that you can exploit the accuracy of thinner 0.8mm discs).
I started with these Erbauer discs at £6 for 5: http://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-5-pack/76482 and didn't last very long at all. These were the first one I tried.
I then decided to go for the expensive Flexovit ones, at 0.8mm thin: http://www.screwfix.com/p/flexovit-ultra-thin-cutting-discs-115-x-0-8-x-22-23mm-5-pack/71334 these are £8.50 for 5. They lasted about as long as the Erbauers, but then again they are slightly thinner.
I then went for the cheapest cutting discs from Screwfix as I was burning money. These Titans: http://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-metal-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-3-pack/7600d you can get 9 for £6.33. These have lasted just as long as the other types but are almost half the price.
Note that Screwfix also do a pack of 10 Bosch discs for £10: http://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-metal-cutting-discs-115-x-1-x-22-23mm-pack-of-10/65939 however these are not a stocked item so have to be ordered in, so I wasn't able to try these.
