Hi. My name's Paul and I'm the editor of Aircooled Classics magazine. I'm slowly 'doing the rounds' to let everyone know about a brand new VW and Porsche magazine.

A group of VW and Porsche journos have got together to create something new and quite special. It's a 154 page online magazine that you can view online via your PC, Mac or iPad. We're going to be publishing 4 issues per year and the first issue went live on June 1st. Sorry for the delay! We're going to give each issue away to encourage readership, so please sign up to the free newsletter after you've had a look at the first issue.

To read it go to http://www.aircooledclassicsmagazine.com and follow the instructions.

Hope you like it.

Cheers,

Paul

Loving the look just a pity its not a glossy hardcopy.....

Mr Clunes you got one very nice 69 twin slider......

Good job guys. :party0021:

Nicely implemented and thought out. I like the design concept that pays tribute to early VW ad design and typography that you have used on some of the pages - it works well.

Can I PLEASE have the picture of the black panel Splitty on page 119 in high resolution for my wall paper? 8) 8) 8) 8)

Looks good!

Ahh them STOP lamps, I want one of them, saw one at show in not fantastic condition but the guy on the stall wanted £120!

I thought the STOP lamp was cool too.

Was it expensive becuase it had the STOP on it or are red lights like that rare in general? I ask because if you can pick the red lights up relatively cheaply, I can just cut the STOP out of vinyl to stick to the light. :msn4: :character0036:

I dunno to be honest, didn't like the sellers attitude so didn't enter into any convosation or consider getting out my wallet!

Have seen a similar thing available for Harleys though so might explore that avenue.

Just wanted to say a couple of things.

Firstly, because of the help from you guys we achieved our goal of 5000 views of the magazine.

We hoped to achieve this in two months. We had no idea we would do so in about two weeks!

Secondly, will the guys or gals running this 'ere forum please consider doing a banner swap with us. We're clearly on to something here and we'd like you to be a part of it. LateBay are, so why not EarlyBay? Go for it - see our links and banners page and get something to us and so a swap. It's a win-win situation for all of us.

Finally, we've started work on those wallpapers. Just one for the time being. More later. Grab it now. Yes 'cunning plan' - I started with the page you wanted! Go see and download!

Thanks for all your support. :D

Me too, Clem! I was a young whipper-snapper in those days, bit like yourself. ;) You'll be downloading the issues of Aircooled Classics and writing to disc now, I suppose. Not quite as nice, looking at a stack of CDs, but they'll probably be around for just as long, maybe a few decades longer. That's a thought... As well as wallpapers for your PC/Mac maybe I should knock up some specially sized front cover inserts for disc cases.

The work load never seems to out pace my enthusiasm

Issue 2 is going to be larger than issue 1. Since releasing #1, where we sourced what we could ourselves to make the content interesting, the positive feedback and tasty offerings have come in from around the world. Issue 2 will definitely be more of a mix of your typical magazine stuff, including at least two brand new sections.

Thing is, can you wait until September?

You've onviously put a lot of thought and effort into this so well done on that. Great content.

However... I don't like the attempt to make it look so like a real magazine. It's on a landscape screen so why go for portrait pages? Why not just design a good layout on a single landscape page?

I also get an online railway mag...

http://www.railwayherald.co.uk/

... check their low res copy for a great way to present online.

You are right. When viewed as a single landscape A3 page by itself it would work fine in a simple PDF viewer. However, we want to make Aircooled Classics 'feel' like a magazine, not a series of postcards, and the option to flick through it using the software provided makes that possible, and is the most preferred method of viewing online magazines worldwide.

Should the magazine be composed of A3 landscape pages those that prefer to flick pages would find they're left with a very wide and very short magazine, and viewing on-screen would be less than ideal. Each to their own Mike - but don't count on us producing two variations of the same magazine!

what a great read. i understand why its best to be interweb only but i wish this was a hard copy mag. nice work.

Wow! I didn't want you to put all that work in  Thanks! Although, I'm sure you were going to do that all anyway - great way of promoting the publication  ;)

No ooops about it, mate. It was a great idea. Just needed the time to do it and there you go. We'll do a few more too. I've already added a couple from issue 2 as teasers... 356 Outlaw and Kiwi Split.

7000 readers now. 19 days.

I wish it was a hard copy too. It would look the bee's knees if it was!

Trouble is, it wouldn't have got out to as many people so quickly and it would have to be monthly or bi-monthly, and the bean-counters would have their say, and... At the end of the day it's a small group of us that are putting each issue together in our free time. A small group of dedicated writers and photographers. The majority of us have published work before and you pretty much all know our backgrounds. We just love bringing you something different, something creative. We're all about sharing, because we really do live a life of VW and Porsche ownership. Four of the writing team own at least one aircooled Porsche (a 356, 914, 912 or 911) and in all cases but one, the Porsche(s) share the garage with a host of VWs. So we speak from the heart. We're not bean-counters!!! But we have a plan...

I have to say, if you thought issue 1 was good... You ain't seen nuthin' yet! With the feedback from abroad and the UK we've been collecting plenty of fine material this last couple of weeks. Issue 2 is going to be bigger, contain much more variety and the quality, something we're keen to exploit given the power of the web over paper, is moving up a peg or two.

Can I make a plea to all those who thought issue 1 was good enough to receive free of charge? Please subscribe to our e-newsletter through the website for details of issue 2 and more material sent this way. It's free to subscribe, but we need your support to continue the magazine. At the end of the day we need businesses to take out advertising to support our work. We have the numbers already (7000 and growing), and our prices are ridiculously cheap - 40 quid for a qtr page advert, but we need to convince the businesses that a team of experienced writers, magazine editors and photographers are going to be in this for the long run. We are, of course, but we need to prove this to them all. Please sign up and tell your friends to sign up as well. Let's really make a difference and keep the magazine and the message strong. Then we'll bring you the magazine AND the show you've all been waiting for...
