Hi,

I have recently had an alternator installed, when i recieved it back from the garge i noticed the belt was slack (4shims in pulley) but it also appeared that the pulley was rubbing a groove in my alternator, so last night i removed 2 shims an placed these in front of the thrust washer, but still the same probelm.
Can i place some shims behind the pulley (alternator side), to create the clearence or is something more fundamentally wrong?

Thanks

Is it because they used the old generator pulley? not entirely sure but i thought there was a difference in the pulley types.

Hey,

No it was a new pulley, from machine 7.........first alternator went back
so it appears to be the correct pulley.....

If you get hold of 'robins' on here - he had the same issue last year.

Not sure what the outcome was, but he may be able to point you in the right direction?

I had the same issue when i changed to an alternator, i just put some of the shims behind the pulley to give it some clearance, not had any issues in nearly 18 months :D

I also had the same issue. Apparently the pulleys are different so it sounds like you've got another dynamo pulley (or an alternator pulley with poor tolerances!). Mine was solved by machining a bit off the back off the dynamo pulley so it didn't touch any more.

You could just wait for the pulley to clearance itself... (not recommended! ;))

I've had problems with Machine 7 alternators.

1st alternator shaft was bent.
2nd pulley was distorted and shredded the alternator. It was fine turning by hand, but as soon as the engine started it ripped itself and the alternator apart.
3rd alternator wouldn't charge.
4th is OK though.

Brilliant customer service, ***** parts.

my mate had the 1st, 2nd and now 4th problems that you have had from schofields (same kit) but great customer services, the one thats working pully was **** so we put the dyno pully on that was fine clearnesses and lines up spot on.

my problem was the little key this had a bit of movement and made the top pulley eat the dynamo.
