Last time I changed my steering wheel I poured boiling water over the big nut holding the wheel on.

the nut is made from a different metal to the column so the heat makes one of them contract, just giving you enough 'give' to loosen the nut off.

wrap a towel around the column though, makes a bit of a mess.... :roll:
