Been a while since i've posted, still doing bumper and poptop repaint, waiting for some dry weather!

Went to two shows, Peppercorn and VWBustop, had misfire/stalling on the M20 on way to Peppercorn, managed to get there, was worse on way home. Seemed that if you rested it for a few minutes it would be all good again, like a fuel starvation issue. What i found was some dirt in the float that seemed to be in the main jet, probably being sucked in and the releasing when the engine was off again. In the meantime I changed the fuel line and fitted a new filter (under tank), and my vacuum distributor. It now runs really well again.

The horn also stopped working, checked the wiring and accidently dislodged the wire by the steering box, nightmare to put back! Turns out it was the horn, so i've drilled out the rivets took it apart and cleaned the contacts and now its ok again.

nice find - does it have seperate hinges for the bed aswell as the poptop that needed drilling in?

Yes thats right there are two simple hinges that are secured to the roof, I just fitted the bed in the best place and then traced round the hinges and removed the bed and hinges, drilled and attached them, then refitted the bed, simple!

Wow, looking good, neat and tidy install. 8)

A roof bed is on my list too, but I'm going to make one using some parts that Calibay knocked up for me.

Ok its MOT time and I need to finally get round to putting a front plate on, so with that in mind the front bumper has to go on. Here it is all ready to fit:

All the bits painted with new step rubber and cleaned up og overider rubbers

These came up well, better than the knackered carpet underneath!

Nice work 8)
What colours the bumper then :?:

Thanks, err the colour, well i went to the paint shop and asked for a plain white as i wanted a contrast between the pastel white and the bumper and poptop. The front has been repainted and the mix was a bit more creamy where as the sides are a respray which is slightly on the greyer side which was done some time ago.

Hi Gareth,

Just found this thread and loving your van.
I have a 71 westy due to me shortly and I'm trying to decide on the lowering front, but I intend to use it properly and probably fully loaded so am undecided as to what to do (it may not fit in the garage without something!).
Yours looks great on the dropped spindles and 1 spline at rear, but how does it fair loaded up and what, if anything, have you had to change to get it right?

Cheers
Al

Love this thread. Was wondering if you'd help me put a Westy roof on my tintop with me.
