Hi,

Thanks for the all advice :)

I heard the test is due to change - but can't find anywhere that says in what way! Anybody know?

CBT will deffo be first point of call - but am mulling over whether to do CBT, and then razz about on a 125 for a bit (get experience etc), or to do CBT + Direct Access in one hit?

Would a bigger bike like a GSX500 - which is what they use for the DAS - be too much to handle for a novice biker?

If I went CBT only I'd be tempted to get a Yamaha YBR125 - or maybe a Honda CBR125...

What do you guys think?

Also, any ideas on good insurance companies - for first time bikers?

Cheers,

Mike

A 125 really depends on you, your build your temprament etc...

with the bigger bike you'll find youll learn more at a faster rate, you'll have the power at hand to get yourself out of trouble (also into trouble)....

It really is your call...do your CBT then work from there....

I'd say my temper/nature is in check - but at 5ft 10" and 14st 7lb my build could be trimmed down a little

I guess a tubby like myself could look a little silly perched on top of a 125 :)

I did the CBT and then the test straight away -- was right for me!

The GSX500 is a sensible bike - good size, not to powerful so Would be a
very good compromise!!!

Good luck with whatever you choose. :D

I found Ebike insurance the best for me but shop around !

I was 'lucky' and did my bike test in the days when the examiner stood on a corner, told you to drive round the block and all you had to do was avoid running him down when he leapt out for the emergency stop!

My advice would be to take things at a pace you'd feel comfortable with - I've gone retro and got a 1977 Honda 400/4 - great handling, easy to service and cheap classic bike insurance

I had one of those years ago 86/7 it was my uncles originally and had one hell of a paint job, it was in the garage in pieces after having the frame stove enameled when the lot got nicked  Superb retro motor easy maint....

Passed my test the same way as Wannabay
Like the 400/4 m8, she's very clean :) Had a couple in my time but not as good as yours :(

This is my last bike!

Binned it at Nuremburg ring when it was 6 months old.
Wife had enough of my speed addiction 196 mph out of this baby so hence the early bay with 911 motor.

its always good to have a bike in the garage
I've been riding motorcycles for over 35 years now
but have calmed down somewhat to a more leisurely pace

my weekday shopping trolley

Yep go get your bike licence, you wont regret it they're a load of fun. Theres nothing like waking up early on Sunday morning, throwin your leg over and exploring. The feeling the sun on your back and wind on your face, riding thru countryside smelling and feeling everything you ride through. You know you're alive when you ride a motorcycle.Ive been riding since i was 5 years old. These are my two Harleys.

I got up to a jap import cb400 superfour, did borrow a zxr600 and had a go on a ducati 900 supersport. Then i close call with a transit van changed my mind on going bigger.
Bikes are great but you have to keep your wits about you. I miss having a bike but enjoy the vw's.
