attaching files to posts

tried to attach a pdf to a post. not allowed. whats the deal with this feature? can i attach somehitng so folks can get it?

Put it on Photobucket or simliar - that way we can get to it and it doesn't fill the server up

it's not an image i wanted to attach, i know how to do that. it was a technical pdf document explaining stuff. not just text diagrams as well type thing.
