Autometer tachometer problem!?

I have a sport comp monster tach all had been working fine until my battery went flat and now my gauges needle is stuck right up at 10000? i ve checked the connections they are fine but it wont budge. Its out side its warranty and would be to expensive to send for service in US. I dont dare take it a part as it will definately never work again. Could i drill a tiny hole in the face and push it down with some wire? Any ideas of what i could do?. thanks
