I'm shocked at this, an un-finished late bay for 13K or finished 17-22K, are prices still rising

blood hell thats mental! will it sell thought thats the question!

Looks like my bay was a better investment than I thought!

I'm not sure if its real world prices or just RCC Imports usual highly inflated prices, some daft prices on Autotrader for some of their rough stuff.

at their prices mine must be worth about 30K then :D

 that is just wrong , no way people will pay that for an unfinished non runner, or will they :?:
I hope not , I do feel prices are on the rise even here in California but I think that is just not nice

Would be even better if they had managed to put on a correct roof canvas rather than the badly fitted wrong coloured repro it seems to be sporting.

Trouble is there are people out there throwing stupid money at buses, my mate has been visiting a few workshops recently to get prices for restoring his samba and one place had a few bays on the go and one of them had already had 30k spent on it and it still wasn't finished.

One of the workshops said he has had quite a few buses in where the owners have just brought without viewing them, then they send them to him and basically say make it as new, money no real object.

Just had a quick look.
That was 15 seconds of my life wasted that i wont get back

ahh but as it is RCC Import the price is always over. A mate of mine lives a few hundred yards away from them. Even he has noticed stock does not shift.

I would not touch it with a bargepole

Too true - when my triumph was in the workshop a few years ago it was next to a porsche 912 in pretty much the same shape, a bare metal shell with an engine - mine was worth £500 and the 912 over £10K in the state it was in  (apparently they are rare? looked like an early 911 to me :) ) they were both just basic bits of metal, just that one was desirable, more people wanted it and therefore the guy with the deepest pocket's could afford to own it - mine wasn't desirable enough and therefore was worth 5% of it's value?! Money wasn't an issue for the guy restoring the Porsche

I didn't buy my bus as an investment but the second hand value played a big part after getting burned restoring a car that wasn't as widely known as the VW Type 2 8) - for those worried about risk in owning classic cars the marque is a good bet to return some if not all of the investment, which is a sad way of looking at it, I've never treated my cars as investments and I've got the bank balance to prove it :D

With the trend for "staycation" as it is I'd imagine the thinking by those with the lifestyle to suit is why blow £2K ski-ing in val torens followed by £6K in the bahamas when you can buy a van and holiday for the next couple of years in the UK and get your money back when you come to sell it?

And I suppose in light of that people will go fishing to sell buses on the off chance someone wants one and isn't too worried about the odd grand here or there!

Good post.

If that bus at RCC is worth that, the value of the stock sat in my unit has just gone up by a huge amount    . I think the difference is that most of us on here are slightly more realistic about what the buses are actually worth and what people will pay rather than plucking figures out of the air.

RCC = Robbing Cheeky C n s.

I've seen first hand their work and would never buy from them.

I think the con is to make a bus shiney and attractive to the unsuspecting newbie, advertise cleverly on eBay and wait for the cash to roll in.

For those businesses trying to support the scene with quality products at a reasonable price, they can get tarred with the same brush.

Good restorations should bring in good money, but it is not always easy to spot a good resto.

Too true.

I was once asked while selling my old camper "well whats it worth" ......my reply was "its worth what some one is willing to pay".
