Laters skaters :msn4:

Paint stripper will take all the paint off if the paint job is as bad as you say gun wash thinners will get it off an not hurt the og paint but you don't know what your goin to find under that crap job so be careful

Did some tarting about on ours after reading a few of the threads on the samba (there's loads over there, their obsessed with it! ). Here's the results survey:
Scraper. Works. slow as hell. and curved bits will end up with nicks and other not so jollies :( . Got bored with that one!
Thinners. Tried a couple of different tins that had lying about. Neither did much of anything useful.
Acetone. Now your talking. Cheapest way to try this out is by using cheap nail polish remover (tip, the posh stuff is too friendly, you want the cheapest of the cheap, the one that's so chemical it makes your eyes water). Softens the paint up lovely then you just scrub it off with ultra fine wire wool. If it works you can buy acetone in bulk for not much too :D
Graffiti remover. Got a tub of Swarfega brand stuff from somewhere. Works much better / quicker on the thicker area of spray (have two coats to contend with!). But need to be careful to thoroughly wash down afterwards.
Over cleaner. Only tried this once, it was far too scarey! The yanks love it but suspect the stuff I tried was a bit too keen

Overall, the acetone and the graffiti remover works best on ours but it was a process of trial and error working it out - yours may be painted with something completely different, so you may get different results. And it's very messy work. And don't get your hopes up too much for what's under there. Progress was abandonned on ours after discovered that they had prepped the bigger areas plus the new paint had reacted with the original and crazed it :|

heres a pic of mine after(its not finished yet! lol), this is actually the worst side:

As I said I used nitromors, brushed it on, waited 30 seconds then wiped it off with a wet cloth! worked well in most places & its surprising just how tough the original paint is!
Just beware that you may uncover nasties! like my passenger door dent & filler which I think was the reason for the respray as no-one knew about it (bus was originally owned by my mates father-in-law from new).

a freind of mine specialises in making rat rides for his split single cab he used oven cleaner an to my surprise its works i used oven cleaner on a block i have took all the oil an grease off no surprise there but it took the shitty paint off too fresh block to paint a good colour with good paint!!

he also used a scotch pad to help loosen stubborn paint but if you want a shiney finish i wouldnt recommend the scotch pad!!

I started removing the respary on my van this week. I found using 1200 wet n dry is the best, but i will give nitromors trick a go. :D :D

Spoke to a mate last week who cleaned back his split to original paint and he settled on yellow nitromors and a washdown with meths.
Am going to give that a go as I get bored easy and the experimentation is fun
