Hello all, i need to replace my seized front callipers on my US 71 bus, where's the best place to get them / is there any i need to avoid or any tip to replacing them or things I need to look out for etc.

Many thanks for any advice
Ash

Hi
I found a pair on sale on this here forum for mine, as the refurb ones are really expensive.
However JK sell an adapter kit to take late bay calipers. New parts and cheaper makes sense. Would do it this way myself next time round. Much safer with new parts!

Andrew.

Hi Ash

71 are one year only callipers and hard to find in good condition, we have refurbed them in the past as you can get seal kits but depends on the condition of the ones on your bus.

As Andrew as pointed out you can fit late callipers which are readably available using an £11 (i Think) kit from JK which we have used in the past, late bays use a larger bolt (m12 from memory) whereas yours using an m10 bolt, the kit just takes up this difference with 4 top hat bushes. You ideally need to fit longer bolts though as the callipers are slightly deeper, I've got some of the longer bolts sat on the shelf if you need any,

Let me know, you'll find Machine 7 do a new late calliper complete with pads for around £80 each,

Less than £20 from gsf worked a treat on my 71 :)
Im a knuckle dragger chimp when it comes to owt mechanical and im still alive so it cant be that hard of a job

Took half an hour on each one and popped the pistons out with an air line (they fly mind)

Except for the '72 model year, which used the same calipers as '71.

(well, actually, that's not quite true - they added a second bleed nipple for the '72 model year, but the calipers are interchangeable).

It was the '73 model year when they changed to the 'late' disc brakes.
:)

presumably the second bleed nipple just meant they could be used either side??

Sounds great. I've not fitted mine yet so no idea of condition etc.

Ash as your running king an link beam you need late bay calipers an disc an pads to match

That will make finding them easier anyway
