Hi All,

Finally it's collection day of our first bus tomorrow :D Thought I better get some breakdown cover sorted, but seem to be having a few probs finding a policy that covers a 1971 left hand drive bus!

Can anyone recommend cover? I'm wanting onward travel and home start inc.

Cheers
Craig

My breakdown cover is included with my insurance and it has been fab!

P.S. it has almost exclusively been The AA who have been sent when I've needed them, so I would have thought they'd be able to help.

I chose RAC after hearing horror stories of the AA doing a shuttle service so each truck taking you to the edge of their area and then dropping you at the services to wait for the nest truck.

RAC take you the whole way on one truck and they have been ace everytime I have needed them.

The AA have piggybacked me before, but that has nothing to do with geographical reasons, more to do with driving time (there are strict laws about how long a driver can go for in a single stint/shift/day).

I have had a single driver for a 200 mile journey before
I have had 3 drivers for a 300 mile journey.

When we had 3 different drivers - the new vehicle was waiting for us when we pulled in to the services so all that was needed was transferring the bus from one to another. There was just enough time to nip in for a pee and grab some grub (to go) at these stops.

The worst experience I had was when a driver picked us up and we only made it 2 junctions up the motorway before he had to take a mandatory break. This isn't his fault - simply the rules. Sadly we had to make a second stop not far from home a few hours later for the same reason. All companies are bound by the same legislation

Just took out my insurance through A-plan a couple of wks ago. They offer breakdown but not for vehicles over 16 yrs!

Will try AA but most of their policies are approx £150.... More than the bus insurance [DISAPPOINTED FACE]

I took out RAC personal cover for myself and partner - it's a one off cost and covers us as a driver or passenger in any vehicle.

As long as the camper meets their T&C's (which it does for us) then all is well.

Always check quidco etc before buying breakdown cover, you can earn quite a lot of cash back with them.

Yep, went through quidco and just got roadside and recovery.....should hopefully be £55 so can't complain! Hope I don't use it mind!

RAC guy told me that they relay you also. Join up before you breakdown because they screw you with added costs.

Have a look at GEM. It is a personal cover meaning you are covered for any car you own and they don't put a limit on the age of the vehicle. I have been with them for 3 years now with joint membership for me and my daughter, who drives a beetle as her daily. Fortunately neither of us have ever needed to call them out so cannot say how good the service actually is but they have been voted No 1 for overall service 5 years running by Autoexpress magazine. Oh, and it only cost me £75 on their reclaim option!

I have full breakdown cover as part of my insurance through Cherished, it costs me £35.

I have only had to call on it once, a 200 mile journey that was staged/relayed, but the second truck was waiting for us at the services so I can't grumble.
