Has anyone built their own stand for working on their bus? I'm loosely thinking about this probably using L profile steel welded together. Mainly to save some coin and to enhance my welding skills :oops:

I'm moving house from a flat so will have the space to get the bus up in the air to carry out the work I want to do to the chassis and body before finally respraying.

Any advice ideas would be kool.

I'm unsure how much the metal would cost hopefully it woyld be cheaper than buying a stand off the shelf

stand ? like a chassis roller ? or over sized axle stands ?

machinemart sell 6 ton high lift axle stands that will lift you bay well into the air :)

I bought a rotisserie from Ebay but had to do loads of work on it as it was well below capable of turning a bay safely.

has anyone bought/used one of these??

you can also buy it in kit form for £220 so all you need to do is weld it up. However if you buy the £280 built version you can sell it bac to them for £140! p&p £55 though (postage x2 ways thats not making the sell back option so great so selling it privately collection only may work out better.

Yep ive built one much the same as the one moler posted up. It's in Essex at the mo with a mate but Hes also finished with it. I'll post pics up later

I bet the first time you use any of these there is a massive holding of breathe and a lot of nervous twitching around the rear, but they look like they make life so much easier :shock:

yes
the idea is good but the material is very thin ok for a beetle but not for a fully loaded bay

I asked to buy just the plans seeing as he sells them to other counties, but he won't :roll:

I saw on eBay you can buy plans from a guy in the US. He also sells the hardware and the more complicated sheet steel cuts laser cut....nice. ill post a link

i built one for a shell- it's not strong enough for a fully built bay as is, but then, i made it from 1" box, 2mm wall. could easily be beefed up. two triangles, one at each end, and a cradle. cost about £80 with all new steel.
i have a thread with it on here-

http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/showthread.php?t=668144" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

sorry it's a volkszone thread, i hope that's not a problem for mods but feel free to remove it if it is!
