Bus Covers

Hello all,
Hope all are well, have just spent the last half hour scouring the site for advice on covers for the bus.
I am none the wiser.......... UK Custom Campers for a Waterproof one, JK seems to be the preferred one and Maypole................
Losing the will ......etc. Anybody have any words of wisdom? My thoughts were to get 2, hear me out.

First a breathable one that is not waterproof. Second one a waterproof. So thereby doing a 2 in one job.
Yes it may seem over the top but , if the bus is going to be outside for long periods of time and unattended on a daily basis.

What are your thoughts on this problem???? Any help on this matter will be helpful. I do realise the weight and movement can affect the paintwork.

Breathable unfortunately doesn’t mean it won’t hold moisture. Breathable fabrics only work where there is a potential difference of hot moist air pushing from inside into cold air outside. So will need to get hot before it expels moisture. Fine on sunny days. BTW that’s why Breathable fabrics don’t really work on humid days as there is no pd.
Waterproof will definitely hold moisture out but obviously inside as well.
I used a breathable cover from ebay. 2 straps underneath and zip door, adjustable at back. Was about £90 and worked a treat until it eventually started to rip. Well worth the money.
Will see if I can find the link.
I could have elongated it’s lifespan by washing it and re proofing it with Fabsil.
The main thing was it was a real nice soft interior that didn’t scuff any paintwork.

Great advice above. I would also add that with any sort of cover, it is worthwhile removing it at any (dry) opportunity to ensure that any trapped condensation between bus and cover, and in the bus itself, will have a chance to evaporate. Popping a dehumidifier of some description inside the bus will always be a good idea.

Another option would be a pop-up garage, or carcoon; have you got space for either of these? These would give you the all-important airflow / controlled environment that we are all aiming for to prolong the life of our buses. The less moisture, the slower the tin-worm!

Yes - my cover comes off regularly when guaranteed dry spell. I also keep window and rear hatch slightly ajar. But I live in a very quiet rural area and it’s parked well away from road.

Thanks guy's, think I will do the waterproof thing for the summer. Fortunately I have somewhere to put the bus in the winter.

Let me know how you get on as I'm thinking of getting one of these too. A few questions I have are:
- Are they a tight/loose fit?
- How abrasive is the inside liner?

Definitely Maypole! My bus lives outside all year. Best I’ve used.

Did you read the description on the JK Website as it answers most of the questions you say are not there??, weight of fabric, how many openings, number of straps etc

really recommend it, had two JK ones previously and if outdoors all year then they are ok but after five or six years then they are rotten. second one i sold one after a few months use to a friend as we found indoor storage.. then needed to buy another after a house move and this time went Maypole - its thicker matterial and fits the van better in my opinion. useful reflectors in the corners too for seeing the van on the drive in the dark!

Whilst on my travels doing my Asda deliveries, I came across a regular customer on a farm that I’ve got quite friendly with and this time we end up chatting about my old van then she is telling me about all these other cars that her hubby has done up and the latest one is an Escort that he’s gonna keep. So she asks would I like to see it and I’ve feigned interest as it was supposedly ten yards away in a large barn. We go towards this barn where the door is slightly ajar and she rolls the big door back another ten feet and I’ve not seen anything like this before, the escort looks like brand new and it’s in a garage sized plastic bag with climate control. It’s blown up like a bouncy castle pump continuously operating and it’s heated and lit up twenty four hours a day. This escort has nothing within twenty feet of it, it’s almost surgical . Now that’s what you’d call a cover if you had a choice.

Well it's finally in place and will be tested this week before we go to the Camp Out. Was not difficult to put on and as long as you work from front to back
it took us 10 mins from new first timers.
Full report when tested more and been through some rain etc....

I use a Maypole and so far I would class it the best (used the ones from JK and VWH) - well worth the money!
