Hello I'm looking at purchasing my first bus and seen one that I'm looking at is there anyway I can check on the history of the bus prior to purchasing I've heard you can get birth certificates for the buses would that give me the info I need???????

Thanks

birth cert only gives dates of manufacture and spec etc, form V888 from dvla gives a list of previous owners but you have to pay and show reasonable proof (i.e own the van) of why you want to know, there isn't really a way of knowing the history of a vehicle as such.

I am sure that there is a check that you can do (HPI?) to ensure that there is no HP or insurance claims outstanding, but I think you are probably more interested in the physical history i.e. what repairs has it had, is it what it looks like, am I buying a pile of *****, etc.

My advice is to do what I didn't, and take along somebody who knows what they are looking at  . And read any one of the various guides to buying a bus, which you will find online, and which point you towards the obvious danger signs. I did not do this and it cost me dear.

If you are any where near a show (eg Weston Park this weekend) just look at some solid buses and talk to the proud owners.

Good luck.

You can check a bus's history online on the DVLA site. If u do that and a HPI check u should find out what u need,
We did that when looking for our bus.
Chris.
