Hi all, I've just purchased my first bus, it's currently being painted etc and should be ready in 10 weeks or so, my first thing to take care of when i pick it up is to sort out some security, so I was wondering what people would recommend for alarms etc? And if anyone could recommend anyone in the south east (Kent) I've read a few horror stories of buses being stolen lately so decided security is a must!!! So what does everybody opt for or prefer? (Obviously I'm not asking you to list to much detail, you never know who's reading!)
Any advice is much appreciated,
Thanks, Brett.

mine nots on the road yet
but im goint to put a fuel solenoid cut out on it wired to a hidden switch [ebay £15]
and i have a cheap [well free it was in the van]diy alarm,
that has a siren, starter relay that immobilizes the starter motor, a door opening sensor..... and two key fobs,

the best deterants are something and visible/physical tbh

Well my bus will be stored in a secure garage when not being used so that's secure enough as it is , was thinking that maybe certain alarms wouldn't be any good? For example, my Clifford on my old BMW would go off if you farted near it! Would insurance companies rob you if you had no alarm/tracker?

Is there any particular system that is better suited to the vw van?

I have a gravel drive, Rottweiler and Staffy dogs, an Über secure pedal lock, locked remote camera equipped garage, motion and heat activated security lighting and remove the rotor arm when not in use - but if they want it unfortunately it is gone!

Auxillary ignition switch fitted in the US when the original failed, will fool anyone. Knackered battery, dodgy aux ignition switch (gonna need replacing soon) wonder about dodgy starter solenoid as well, lousy gearchange (check thread in general, 'first time') gravel drive, nosey neighbours and my chronic insomnia. It's going nowhere. Fingers crossed. :?

I might have to get a scary dog then, I've got an old blind Labrador(ex drugs dog) at the moment, he'd smell them coming then bark at a tree!!!

We fitted hydraulics suspenson so unless you get a forklift it aint rolling nowhereas sat on front/rear tubs and engine on the ground.
Bit of a pricey solution but it looks epic.

or garage it , fuel cut of, rotor arm , hidden kill, switch etc.

Trackers are good but dont stop it walking and nobody listens to alarms do they?

OUTTA sight ,outta mind is the best solution really

Everyone needs a George ....

George is the retired security guard / nosey neighbour that lives opposite to me and the drive where my bus is parked.

He commands what I can only describe as "dads army on acid" a collective of men, women and dogs all in there twilight years who's only pass time is to ride our street of scrap men, scooter kids and uneven curbs, he has a direct number to the local cop shop for reporting anti social behaviour and a list of number plates of suspicious vehicles dating back to 1974. :)

They all know who should be driving my bus ( me) and collection by a third party should always be done with 48hrs prior notice ( to George).

Alarm, Uber secure pedal lock, Gene Berg locking shifter, Nemesis sold secure wheel clamp, Battery isolator key and still paranoid.

Here in the states I have seen any number of cars driven away with the alarm sounding off, I think they are a watse of money, no one really cares, a kill switch hidden away in the cab works very well. One guy I know wired his cig lighter up as a kill switch, he would just pull it out when he left the car, it shorted out the ignition, just a thought.

drive a shitter

...or at least something with dents.

I installed a tracker on PAYG SIM. Park up, text it to arm it then go enjoy yourself. Anyone tries to unplug it or move your van and it texts you back with a link to google maps. One time cost and peace of mind.

It is worth getting a switch for the fuel pump, well hidden in the van. If someone robs it and you track it then by the time you know it is missing they should be stuck at the roadside wondering why it cut out. My van runs for 2 miles with the fuel pump turned off so I know the radius it will be in when the tracker alerts me that it has moved.

I then have the time it takes someone to realise what has happened and to then hard wire the pump into the battery to find them. I have forgotten to turn it on once and spent 20 minutes at the roadside until I remembered I had it...

As I work in the security trade I would follow one rule make a noise make it loud make it difficult to silence. There is no point connecting to your horn a quick lay down under the bus no more noise. Most thiefs are opportunists and will take a chance, do anything to draw attention and there off, the more persistent might try a couple of times to see if they can Suss it out, so make it difficult,an alarm with a cut of relay is good just keep the thing hidden, and you can't be a dead man switch hidden some where sneaky use it to cut the power to some thing simple like the cold side of the ignition or the 12v coil feed, they won't sit there try ing to start it, and a good old fashion crook lock works a treat. Most of all have your little secret that you don't post on public web pages

I have a george over the road from me , i swear the bloke never sleeps !! ,
every time you look out the window his there,

cracking bit of security,
