cam shaft bearings double thrust vs single thrust

hi all

i'm trying to get hold of, without any luck, some cam shaft double thrust bearing, but everyone i've tryed so far are out of stock and aren't expecting any in for a while.

someone (from hertiage or just kampers cant remember) said people are buying two sets of standard bearings and and using the thusty bit so you get you double thrust bearings.

now, how do they do that and is it possible or advisable to do it or should i just use standard cam bearings as that's what VW intended??

sounds odd to me? I thought the double thrust was the lip that went over the saddle on both ends of the bearing??

have you tried GSF - sure they do the double thrust [don't quote me on that!]

i'd forgotten all about machine 7, ordered some from them just after posting lol, luckally they have them whoop :)

still sounds odd to me using two single thrust to make double thrust

cool

perhaps they mean top to toe so one half has the lip one end and the other case half has the lip the other end? dunno sounds fishy!

DOH! cam bearings only have thrust on one half of split bearing,so if you fit 2 then you have full circle thrusts,so there is only one bearing half with thrust in standard set ,so if you buy 2 you can use the one with the thrust to make up :roll:
 
IIRC I used double thrust in my engine and had to file off one of the locating 'tangs' to
fit correctly. These came from CoolAir I think. I do believes it's common practice so just
for info really..
