Hello folks,

Has anyone fitted a straight-sided campershop set of devon bellows?

We've just been marking ours up using the original aluminium strips, the sides were fine, but got to do the ends and found that the holes in the strips are wider than the width of the canvas.

See pictures:

Not sure if it is meant to be like this, but the measurement on the ends seam to seam is smaller at the top, than at the bottom - I.e. The pop top is slightly pyramid shaped.

Has anyone fitted one of these and had a similar thing happen? I assumed they'd just be made to be straight, as per the concertina ones that have been removed.

Did you get this sorted? Just fitting mine.

Weirdly, I can give you an answer in about 3 hours time, as I will be riveting this section to the roof... Finally!

I have had to shorten the end two pieces of alloy strip and filled the end two rivet holes. Still got the back to do!

Out of interest, were you able to remove the bellows and fit the new canvas with the roof in situ, or was it a 'cap off' jobbie? :?:

Any tips welcome.

Right, just finished this job today, in the end I've riveted it all in place as per how I was holding it in the photo above - so the end rivets on the strip aren't actually clamping any canvas. I don't think you'd want to cut down any of the strips, as they help to keep the corners located and watertight.

The bellows are spot on, a perfect fit, and even curved to match the front and back roof profile.

I had the entire roof off, but then I have just re-designed and built it so was starting from scratch with sheets of aluminium.

After having it all to bits, does your roof close evenly and hold tight?

Yup - take a look in the gallery section for the thread started by me and I've put a load of pictures as I went through the roof rebuild process. I've temporarily used the original hold down catches, but will at some point be replacing with ones that lock down for some added security and after reading Ozz's adventure with his Devon!

And I`ve just started the rebuild on that too. But to be fair mine is a much later Devon and they are light in comparison to the older ones. Once it`s all back nicely, we could all do a bit of brainstorming for a secondary catch mechanism for em. It`ll have to be fairly quick to activate or we`ll just use it a few times then not bother if it`s too complex

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Very simple required :msn4:

I'm going to be getting some of these, which I'm fairly sure are the same screw hole spacing as the originals:

Just going to cry a bit when the total + VAT and postage is added up....
