ive not long had my 71 bay and ive never had air cooled before sorry if this is a comon question so it goes like this:

ive just plugged in my new vdo dipstick temp sender ive got a cupple of quetions:

1. how far in should it sit? i.e. sould it sit tuching the bottom of the sump or just off the bottom?

2. and its that long the top sits against my alternater and belt.... :(

i dnt wnt to bend it but is that the comon way to clear the belt?

thanks bobby

i set mine at the same length as the og sender or about 10mm longer, and yes you can put a gentle bend in them.

i dnt have a old sender to copy im re-placeing the standerd dip stick

ive moved the bit down so it slots in the hole but then im left with a big blue bit up agains my belt :(

you can bend them gently over. also if you run the wires along and through the clasps that hold the wires in place near to the battery, and keep the wires taught that will naturally pull the dipstick over, if you see what im getting at

Pete

I made mine the same length as the original and scored some light marks across it at the same level as my min and max marks from the original.

I didn't bend mine but instead put a couple of cable ties around the oil filler and around the stick and put a bit of tension in them to hold it clear of any moving parts.
