Hi,

Is it possible to repair the gear mechanism on the Westy louvred windows as I have 1 window that works perfectly and closes the slats nice and tight but on the other window on sliding door when you have wound the handle as far as it goes it leaves the slats open by about 10mm, you can push them shut from the outside but it then rattles when driving.

I see the gearing attached to the handle is all rivetted together so I don't want to start drilling rivets out and totally mess it up.

Thanks

try lots of wd40 on it all, mine was at the point that mole grips would have been the only thing to move it, kept spraying it over a week or two and it freed up, you can drill the rivets out but I never managed to split the mechanism into two half

here is a write with pics of refurbing the windows, i had the feeling its possible to adjust them too? http://homepage.mac.com/ratwell/78_Westy/PhotoAlbum59.html

edit: it is possible to adjust them:

Thanks for the info Cyber but that adjustment seems to just move the panes of glass down the frame and does close up the gap i have.

I have 1 spare frame but the winder gear doesnt work fully on that either so will probably have to use that as a test and drill the rivets out to see if its rebuildable.

im interested what happens when you take the mechanism apart also as 1 of my westy window winders just spins. and each of the lourve windows is free to be lifted at all times. its currently cable tied to avoid more rattles
