When away last summer my clutch developed a problem after a few weeks, an hour or so of driving on the motorway getting the van nice and warm. When I pulled over then went to pull away again the clutch was juddering really bad. Had a look through the haynes and said could be a soaked clutch plate.

This problem continued for the next 6 weeks. The problem is still there but as I havent used the van much over the past few months and the weather being a lot colder I haven't had chance to test it.

Also when i started the van yesterday in Neutral with the clutch pedal pushed down, when I lifted the pedal up the van went forward slightly?

Any idea's what the problems could be? Is it going to be an engine out job?

Its likely to be either contaminated with oil or maybe the plate is warped or a broken spring, might be just old age, either way its probably best to pull the motor to be sure, and whilst its out change it for a new one. Make sure the flywheel oil seal or gear box seal isnt leaking though or the new clutch will have the same problem after a while.

I had a similar problem on mine, turned out to be a broken clutch release baring spring.

as above, get the engine out and have a look.

Before you pull your engine out have a look at the bowden tube, your clutch cable will run through a metel tube to the rear of the van where it goes into a rubber flexible tube (bowden tube) the bowden tube should have a slight bend in it or you will have clutch judder.

I had this problem on mine and the weld that holds the metel clutch cable tube to the rear beam had broken causing my bowden tube to go slack, i simply attached the tube back to the beam with a jubille clip ensuring the bowden tube had a slight bend and problem solved!

May not be the problem but worth a look!

Good thought, forgot about this as a possible reason, you sometimes need to look beyond the obvious with an old vehicle as age causes additional problems to the usual suspects
